booking hotel rooms

booking hotel rooms

How many months ahead has anyone booked a block of hotel rooms for out of town guests? We're still trying to figure out who will even come from out of town - but I don't want to wait too long and then have the hotel we want run out of rooms. I figure it will be between 10 and 20 rooms needed - anyone know the policies of what happens if you don't fill all the rooms booked? Any advice would be much appreciated!

A lot of hotels will not book more than a year in advance. I booked mine in July for a May 2007 wedding. I actually got the best price!

We just booked our rooms for our October wedding. We got a great rate and there was no financial responsibility if the rooms go unfilled.

we blocked our's right away when we booked at East Wind. We have 2 blocks of 10 and 1 block of 7...the Inn is out of rooms for my date- when we booked there was already 1 other wedding going out that day. We are going to get another block of rooms down the road to accomodate the rest of the guests.

If people don't mind posting...what hotels didn't make you financially responsible for reserving rooms? We don't have many out of towners, so I'm just looking for some places to recommend to our guests, but not a large number.
Thanks!

I booked mine a little over a year in advance since we're getting married during a holiday weekend. When you speak to the sales manager, he/she will let you know the max # of rooms you can block at a time. When most (~80%) of your rooms are booked, they will contact you and ask you if you need to block more. Rooms are released from the block to the general public a month prior to the event, so make sure that your guest book by the cut off date to ensure they have a room.

FM me if you need more info, I'm getting married at Giorgio's also.

i just did that this weekend! it really is never too early. i got a lot of run around of places telling me it was too early and to call back, when i called back they were booked!! so go with your gut and plan ahead!

the places i spoke with said there wasnt a 'penalty' if you said 20 rooms and only use 14.....i am in the same boat, fh family hasn't given us any insight if they are staying at a hotel.
