Booking RH early

Booking RH early

How far in advance can you book your reception Hall? And are there any discounts for booking early? For example if I were to book a hall now for March or April 2015..is that ridiculous?

We were planning on a long engagement which would give us time to save & pay for everything since we are paying ourselves but now I'm wondering if maybe 2014 isn't enough time and halls are just going to get more and more expensive the longer we wait.

Curious what other long engagement brides have done..?

Thanks!

i wouldn't think you would get a discount, when i was booking our 2013 wedding a couple months ago i'd asked about early 2014 pricing and the pricing actually goes up for the following year. i'm assuming you could book a venue but i would think some other vendors maybe wouldn't book their services that far in advance. also keep in mind that photographers usually raise prices year to year as well (at least the one's i've spoken with do).

I'm a May 2014 bride and I booked my RH this past April. You can definitely book 2014 this early. I'm not totally sure about 2015, but most RH and vendors for that matter, have a payment plan where you won't pay most of the money until a few months before the wedding. I actually recommend booking early if you can. Like Crisy211 said, you won't get a discount, but you will also pay current prices which will be less than 2014. I'm currently looking at photographers and some have my date booked already. If you know what you want, go for it!

I booked almost 2 years ahead of time. I was happy I did it since I had so much time to pay for it. Plus, If I had waited to book I know the price would have gone up. My hall is now 10$ more pp.

Hello, I am a summer 2014 bride. I was engaged 3 years before the wedding date, but I booked venue about 25 months ahead (so we waited 11 months to book anything). You wont get a discount booking early, but you will be able to lock in 2012 or 2013 prices-- they cant guess-timate what they will be charging 2-3 years from now.

I went to a bridal show right after my engagement and when I told them 3 years, they looked at me like I was nuts! Now, 2 years in advance, they think I am smart for booking early. You will get many looks on your journey, but you just do what is best for you.

Good luck!

I booked a summer 2014 wedding in June. And some of the places had dates booked for then too. So you can call up the places and see if you can book earlier. At least you will get locked into this years prices.

I agree, venue prices go up each year. I would at least do the venue and a payment plan. You could have your choice of date:)

We booked our reception hall 15 months before our wedding and the book at the RH was pretty booked and our limo already had 3 other weddings on the same day so I would book as early as possible.

I booked in early 2011 for my Nov 2012 wedding. The pricing they had was still for 2010 so I was able to lock in that price. The price goes up each year and they did knock off a few bucks off the price for the amount of ppl I'm having. HTH

I think it depends. We started looking in this past April and our RH told us they aren't booking yet for 2014 (I was surprised by this!). But,from my experience, I think most RHs follow the simple rules of supply and demand thats why June - September are much more expensive. Thinking of it this way some venues may not give you as greats deals or work with you as much because they have plenty of time to fill up the dates. We decided to have a short engagement (10 months) because our venue worked out an amazing deal with us if we took that date(I guess they figured as we get closer to the date the less of chance they have at booking it so we were able to negogiate quite a bit). Maybe try to price out 2013 v. 2014 at a few places and see the difference. I doubt its anything too substantial. Good Luck!!

This has really been a huge help! I figured the discount was a long shot but i'm glad to know i'm not the only one thinking about booking way in advance. Financially it just makes the most sense for us. Thanks again for your input!!

It def. depends on the place. I got engaged in 8/2011, booked my hall in september 2011, for november 2, 2013. So i did it more then 2 years in advance.

I def don't think its ever too early to book your hall. That is whats going to cost you the most $$ so is nice to know what u will be spending so u can budget accordingly. By the time I get married I will have had a 28 month engagement. I booked my hall in July 2011 for my Oct 2013 wedding. If u book this yr u will get 2012 pricing which will help u save some $$ since halls usually raise their prices every yr.

Usually the more last minute you are, the cheaper the hall is. They want to fill open dates and they will discount them to get them filled. When you book far ahead, they can charge almost anything because they have plenty of time to fill them. Trust me, I know from a lot of experience, haha.

We booked our hall in Feb 2011 for March 2013 so 25 months in advance. We were the first people at our hall to book but not the first to look at places. Also our place didn't have a calendar for 2 years out so they were always looking up the dates on the computer. Most places didn't take us seriously and just gave us a price I felt like. It helped us get a feel for people attitudes also.
