How far in advance can you book your reception Hall? And are there any discounts for booking early? For example if I were to book a hall now for March or April 2015..is that ridiculous?
We were planning on a long engagement which would give us time to save & pay for everything since we are paying ourselves but now I'm wondering if maybe 2014 isn't enough time and halls are just going to get more and more expensive the longer we wait.
Curious what other long engagement brides have done..?

Booking RH early
We booked a year and a half away from our date - and a few dates we wanted were already taken. Prices definitely go up, so book sooner than later. We worked out a payment plan and it felt amazing to have nearly everything taken care of with the wedding over a year away. Now with less than a year, we are stressing to take care of all the other things and glad we don't have to deal with anything for the venue right now but our payments. Also, if your venue/s you're interested in do showcases - definitely go and you will really get a feel for if you want your wedding there or not.

I booked 2 full years early for my wedding at the first hall, then after I postponed I booked 18 months out, which seemed about right.
In retrospect, I would say wait and research more. I can't tell you how much my tastes have changed in that time, and how much new stuff has come out. Between the time I booked my original hall and when i went to book again, new halls had opened, and the hall I eventually went with had udergone a total transformation.
A new china pattern came out that i loved more than the one I'd registered for and already had 7 place settings of and could NOT return because the store where I had my registry (Fortunoff) had closed.
I'd look to book no sooner than 2 years in advance. As I mentioned, the 2nd time around I booked everything 18 months ahead and that seemed about right.
A LOT can change in 3 years. Get your ideas now, start saving, but keep an open mind.
