Hello Ladies! This is my very first post to the site!
FH and I have been engaged just under 6 months and are just now starting to get into the planning process (I know, I know - what bride in their right mind would wait so long to start planning their dream wedding! We had our engagement party in April and then summer rolled around and really have just been enjoying the weather etc). I was wondering the chances of a venue being more flexible with pricing if you are looking to book around 8 months before the date. I know people usually seem to book at least a year in advance and thought this could be to our advantage. We'd like to shoot for April 2013 but don't know if it will be a problem finding availability as well.
Thanks in advance guys!

Booking venue closer to date cheaper?
yeah - if you care to be flexible with your date, usually 6 months or less places are much cheaper in their pricing. its a great way to save money!

Yeah, not sure about 8 months out but I know my brother got a great deal for booking 3 months out. A lot of times RH's want to fill dates so they will drop the price to fill the dates in. Good luck!

When I was researching venues I found that under the year mark the vendors started to discont their prices. Their willing to give a break in order fill whatever dates they have remaining open for the year. Also keep in mind it may also be harder finding other vendors you like, like photographers that are available on the same date then.

I booked my venue 9 months to the date and we got awesome pricing. (But mind you, we also took a date in February, which is not wedding season). April is typically considered a 'swing' month because the weather can go either way so the pricing is typically less to begin with and if you find a date you should def be able to negoiate price as the chances of the date being booked is going to slim. Good luck!

THIS!
We booked our wedding 6 months before and Lessings was running amazing deals at the time. We booked with Smithtown Landing and saved a ton of money and had a beautiful wedding. It really is a great venue.

we booked our wedding 2 months before..then again we're only going to be engaged for 2 months
as long as you're flexible, i don't think you'll have any issues

yes I orginally signed the contract for March 2013 in June and then we realized we needed more time to save and switched to Dec and it was $10 difference PP.
Welcome and congrats!!!!

I booked mine 8 months in advance. I couldn't tell you if it was cheaper than having booked 1-2 years in advance.
And btw, I got engaged thanksgiving 2010 and starting wedding planning in Jan 2012, so don't worry about taking a while to plan. Its not about the wedding or the planning, its about you both sharing a life.

Absolutely cheaper if you book close to your date. I would try to use it to your advantage, ask them for pricing for your month the following year..then ask about deals for this year.
Just be careful if you are already set on a place or a date, I was so surprised how fast some places book!

I think they will cut you a deal because they want to make money however I would just be careful because it might be hard to find vendors who are available. I know my limo company already had 3 weddings booked for my date and we went there over a year before our wedding.

We booked 6 months out and saved $95pp before tax/service charge. But you have to be willing to work with whatever leftover dates they have. We didn't have any problem finding vendors that we wanted to work with either, once we had our date.
