So I told my family that if possible, it would be so great if my bridal shower could be in the city. But obviously what you get for your money in the city doesn't compare to the value on LI. Soooo the best options we've found in terms of price are places with a pre fix brunch that includes one alcoholic brunch drink per person (mimosa, bloody mary etc). Is that one drink enough?? I mean this is a daytime, ladylike shower but I'm worried that people will be bored and complaining if they have to sit at a party for 3+ hours with only one alcoholic drink?? Maybe it's not a big deal. But I think that at most of the showers I've been to, the mimosa flowed the whole time. Adding open bar is just too expensive for my family. So it's either this or an LI shower.
PS If anyone knows of some reasonable NYC shower places please pass them on!!!
Thanks!!

Re: Boozing at Bridal Shower
What day of the week are you doing this? Sat or Sunday? If its a Sunday, I think one drink is fine b/c most people dont want to get all liquored up on a Sunday afternoon... MOST people lol If it's a Saturday afternoon, I would have your shower on LI then. People would want to drink as much as they want- and expecting people to pay for their own drinks in the city is asking too much (b/c its way too expensive) when they are going there to give you gifts.

Re: Boozing at Bridal Shower
You should see if you could pay a little extra to have unlimited mimosas or a champagne punch, I don't think a full open bar is neccessary for a shower. I personally would not be anger/mad if i went to a shower and there was not an open bar.
Just my opinion. HTH

Re: Boozing at Bridal Shower
If you're just gonna do one drink, I would try to work in Champagne Punch or something as well. But if you can't do it and you want a city shower.. ppl can deal w/out drinks. I went to one a few months ago that had no drinking and it didn't seem to affect anyone's good time.

Re: Boozing at Bridal Shower
I think people should have the option for more than one drink, and they should not have to pay for anything. Honestly, when you are at a shower, it really doesn't matter where you are. I'd rather have it LI and include more than in the city (esp if you don't live there) and only have one drink. I live in Park Slope, Brooklyn, and there is an italian restaurant called Trattoria Mangia on 5th Ave that has a 12.95 brunch that includes Mimosas and bloody mary's. I don't know if they would shut down for a shower though, but you could ask.

Re: Boozing at Bridal Shower
I def. think you should be offering some sort of booze the entire time. Doesn't have to be crazy...champ punch or mimosas or carafes of wine.
A lot of places will allow you to order as you go. You can order wine as needed or punch as needed. If people don't drink whats offered, thats fine, they always have the option of heading to the bar on their own. But I am a firm believer that every event should have something offered.
I know its our showers and all and we're excited...but you have to feel for the guests...booze helps them get through the endless present opening...lol!

Ask if you can bring your own? Maybe they will allow a simple champagne punch bowl.

Re: Boozing at Bridal Shower
Many places in the city have brunch that includes 2 drinks. One of my favorites is Choice Kitchen in Gramercy. I know they do parties in the back, so definitely check that out. I'll let you know if I can think of others.

Re: Boozing at Bridal Shower
Honestly I think that one drink is perfectly fine....if the want more they can go get it and are gunna have to pay for it themselves...but honestly ppl arent gunna drink to get drunk at ur shower they are only gunna have one or two drinks anyway
good luck!

Re: Boozing at Bridal Shower
i guess it depends on the type of people you're having. For me, the shower was on a Saturday afternoon and there was no alcohol at all. There's definitely an open-bar at the reception, but nobody in my circle has ever had alcohol at their bridal showers. It's just not what we do. lol. For us, drinks are only served at evening affairs, never daytime.

Re: Boozing at Bridal Shower
Let me just say that sometimes you can be very surprised by how much some drink at a shower lol. I attended a shower and let me say that some women got drunk and not even the young ladies there but it was this big group of older women. So I know most of us think that people won't drink but there are definitely some that do. Because of that maybe it would be best not to offer alot these women were very loud the entire time and obviously drunk.
Personally, at a shower I don't really drink and I am fine with no alcohol. But there are probably some who do want choices

Re: Boozing at Bridal Shower
i second the idea about asking if you can bring your own. Maybe they'll allow you to bring a bottle of wine per table. or they can offer that to you at a better price then the open bar (which i dont think is necessary)

Re: Boozing at Bridal Shower
For brunch a couple of mimosas would cut it. I wouldn't stress about it.
I'm serving unlimited wine at my shower but it's a late afternoon event....I'm sure a lot of the women will drink up to kick off their Saturday nights!

Yeah I was going to say that most showers I've been to, the ladies can put them back.
Personally I think the champagne punch is nice and a little different from the standard mimosas or bloodys.

Re: Boozing at Bridal Shower
you'd be surprised on how much people will drink during a daytime affair. My sister had a saturday afternoon shower and my mom ended up having to spend a fortune replenishing bottles after bottles of wine! i would see if you can add on a little something, such as mimosas or punch like others mentioned.

yeah its funny bc i think most people just assume that women wont drink in the daytime. My mom did open bar and she was surprised when she saw the bill. She didn't expect people to drink THAT much lol.

People drink more when they're not the one paying!
I didn't have alcohol at my shower (it was 3pm on a Sunday). I think drinking should be left to the bachelorette party!
