Boozing at Bridal Shower

Original post by mmm117

Hi Girls -

So I told my family that if possible, it would be so great if my bridal shower could be in the city. But obviously what you get for your money in the city doesn't compare to the value on LI. Soooo the best options we've found in terms of price are places with a pre fix brunch that includes one alcoholic brunch drink per person (mimosa, bloody mary etc). Is that one drink enough?? I mean this is a daytime, ladylike shower but I'm worried that people will be bored and complaining if they have to sit at a party for 3+ hours with only one alcoholic drink?? Maybe it's not a big deal. But I think that at most of the showers I've been to, the mimosa flowed the whole time. Adding open bar is just too expensive for my family. So it's either this or an LI shower.

PS If anyone knows of some reasonable NYC shower places please pass them on!!!

Thanks!!

yeah its funny bc i think most people just assume that women wont drink in the daytime. My mom did open bar and she was surprised when she saw the bill. She didn't expect people to drink THAT much lol.

People drink more when they're not the one paying!

I didn't have alcohol at my shower (it was 3pm on a Sunday). I think drinking should be left to the bachelorette party!

Thanks everyone. I think you're so right - when people aren't paying, they drink a lot. They may even order a drink, take two sips and leave it b/c it's free. I think we're either going to have to move the party to LI or else go with a place where we can order a bunch of cheap bottles of wine. All the places we've looked at charge another $15+ per person to add on unlimited mimosas etc. and that extra amount puts the party over budget. Sigh. I live in the city and so do all my friends so it would just be easiest to have the party there but LI is probably the better option financially.

My shower was on a Sunday afternoon and there was a really yummy champagne punch and everyone seemed fine with this. When I went to my friend's shower in Brooklyn, the BP had a bottle of red & a bottle of white on each table. The bar was open if anyone wanted something else to drink and if we did we just paid for it ourselves.

I'm in the same boat as you...either all my friends travel to LI for the shower or all of my mom's friends have to travel to the city. Good thing I don't have to make that choice.

What is your pp budget? Also, how many people?

We're going to be about 35-40 people and I think the budget is about $35-40/person. You'd think we would be able to find something with unlimited mimosas and bloodys at that price but so far, no such luck in NYC

theres places in queens and brooklyn that you can do something very similar to the way you can in manhattan. For example in LIC, its RIGHT on the water and you have an amazing view of the whole NYC skyline. There are some places there. Also theres locations in brooklyn by the bridge also with amazing views and might get better prices for. I had my shower in astoria and didnt look like a typical place at all, it was more of a lounge type feel with white decor and draping.

The place my mom is throwing my shower in the Bronx - is reasonably priced...and its OPEN BAR/ buffet.. around $35 a person...its a local neighbor hood bar/lounge/restaurant w/ a private party room in the back.
Check out some local bar/restaurants in your area....many of them have party rooms..

Re: Boozing at Bridal Shower

what if someone did an at home shower for you? Then it could cut costs by a lot!!! I had a perfect place in the city where we did my sisters. And it was unlimited champagne drinks. But they closed. But then they opened a new restaurant in freeport- 42 Woodcleft. Maybe check that place out! they did an amazing job on my sister shower!
