Bored/Curious - What goes into how much you give as a wedding gift?
What do you factor into the decision? There was a pretty heated thread on LIF about this..
Do you have a standard amount for weddings Do you consider closeness of the person Day of the week/time of day? Price of venue? Whether or not people are paying for it themselves?
Has planning your own wedding changed your view?

I was going to say- are you on LIF?
I take into consideration if I'm in the wedding party, if they are family or close friends, the venue (dun dun dun!), and if I have to pay for travel/accomodations.

I typically do not take into consideration the time of year/day, venue, or if they are paying for it themselves. I give more to close family & friends and a bit less to those that are more distant relatives/friends.

I give the same amount to everyone unless they are someone extra special to me or I am in their bridal party.

Our standard is $250...we also factor in other things that may increase or decrease the standard. Some of the factors are travel (if we have had to spend money flying in or staying in hotels for the wedding), relation (we give more money to closer relations), and if we're in the BP.
HTH...I am totally gonna go check out that heated debate.

The only thing I really take into consideration is how close I am with the couple. I definitely give more to close friends and family than to everyone else.
I also do take into account where geographically the wedding is (not the venue itself). People don't tend to give as much in other areas as they do here and I try to get a feel for whats 'normal'.

Oh shoot, i missed it!
We never took out for tavel expenses either until we had our own wedding. We had 9 no-gifters and about 5 of them had traveled in. I guess thats what a lot of people who travel do. So, we don't take out much, but we do consider it when writing the check.

Standard gift is $300 for us, as a couple, regardless of venue.
If a couple chooses to pay $250 pp, I don't think it's the guests' responsibility to 'cover their plates.'

Re: Bored/Curious - What goes into how much you give as a wedding gift?
i think it depends on the person and relationship. we usually give at least 3 and then it just goes up if we are really close to them or in the wedding party. obvi less if its away or someone who eloped and having a later wedding

Standard gift for us is $300. We give more to close friends, family and of course if we're in the BP.
Sometimes we'll take the hall into consideration too.

10 pages of utter ridiculousness! Trust me, you didn't miss much! Giving NO gift is a little much for travel expenses- we had to travel and pay for a hotel in October so we gave $250 instead of $300.

Still a great gift!
Ya..I was kinda surprised at how many no gifters we got..not even a card.
Glad I didn't much then! Probably the same old bickering and judging that goes on in some of those rooms.

Yeah, it so was. But it was seriously SO ridiculous there was no chance of it being replicated here, and we're pretty bored today

No gifters! That's insane!
I can imagine giving a little less if you have to travel, but if it's not extreme, I'd always give a gift. My MOH will most likely be getting married in Europe so it will be thousands just to travel to her wedding and so she does not expect gifts. I will probably still get her something, or maybe a really nice 1st anniversary gift after the fact, but if it's within the US I can't see not giving a gift.

I don't really take much into consideration... we generally give a standard amount. However, If the cost pp exceeds the standard amount then we cover the cost of our plates.

I usually give 250 but I take the other things into consideration like how close I am to the person etc
