Boss just asked me...

...to leave him instructions on how to do what I do while I am gone. I have been working in my position for four years and he STILL doesn't know what I do??

I am embarrassed to say I do not know all the specifics of how the people in my department get things done.

I know what they do, how to do it and what the desired output is but if they were going on vacation for 2 weeks or more specific directions of where files & reports are and other little things that may crop up on an irregular basis would be a real time saver, esp when I am covering two desks at one time.

It's to their benefit too, they come back to a desk with less open items or things to deal with.

Sounds like my old boss!!! I swear, I would be out on ONE sickday and I would come back to a desk that looked like a tornado hit it!!! I mean, what the hell did he do to my desk on that one day!! Anyways, let that statement make you feel positively; you are an asset to the company!!!
