bottled beer vs beer in glass at reception

bottled beer vs beer in glass at reception

Do you think it is worth it to pay extra to have bottled beer at the reception instead of beer from the tap in nice glasses? I had heard that some places do not even allow bottles because they don't look as nice in pictures as glasses but I think most people have bottles. What do you think? Is it worth paying a little extra to have bottles?

I will pay extra if they charge it. I dont like beer in bottles at formal functions. I mentioned this to my mother and she didn't even want beer there at all. I don't come from a beer drinking family (or anything else for that matter) and she just doesnt like the smell. We have too many beer drinking guests - all of FH's old fraternity brothers and the guys from his football team. Mom will tell the caterer one thing, then I'll call him back and tell him to ignore mom and put the beer in a nice pilsner. She will be so self-absorbed that she won't notice.

why would they charge you more?

i had them write into my contract--NO bottles at all. only glasses. i hate the site of a bride drinking out of a bottle. not classy IMO

I have told my catering hall I do not want to see a single bottle of beer in the hand of any guest AT ALL. The bartenders will be instructed that all beer is to be poured into glasses to be served to the guests. The BM and my BIL are both going to have a fit the first time they try to get one, but I don't care, I don't want to see a beer bottle sitting on a table in my wedding photos (nor do I want to see it during the course of the night).

A million times yes! PAY EXTRA AND GET BOTTLED BEER. And you are paying extra for the bottled beer, but IT SHOULD STILL BE SERVED IN A GLASS. There should never be guests at a wedding walking around with a bottle. I attended a wedding just this past Saturday and they only had tap beer, I made the mistake of drinking it anyway and well, let's just say I paid the price for it the next day. I thought it was pretty cheesy that they only had tap beer. And they had no imports!

I had to reply to this! I think that a bride with a beer bottle is cute! I walked around for some time with one, i figure i LOVE beer from a bottle...from a glass just tastes weird and every single irish bride in my family drank straight from a bottle and loved every minute :)

Its just my opinion, but I have never understood why people care so much about this.

Whichever way, no tap beer.

I agree...and nferrandi has the cutest shot of her at her wedding drinking from a beer bottle. I love it!

And to answer your question...I don't think they're charging extra just for the bottle, it may be for the actual beer. Case in point: Corona and Heineken (which we HAD TO HAVE) are normally not on tap...we had to have them in bottles. My hall doesn't charge extra for imported beer, but if they did, we would have paid.

I agree, I have so many more important things to worry about on my wedding day aside from beer bottles. JMHO, who cares?

I think at our hall, no beer (tap or bottle, we have both) will be served in the bottle...all glasses....

I'm sure at the after party at our hotel, I'll be drinking out of a bottle thought, I could care less either way.

I guess I am the opposite! I hope my hall gives bottled beer. Our familys both drink beer. Plus all our friends and cousins. I don't like beer but, I have heard it tasted better in the bottle then the glass.

I think as long as the waitstaff are doing their jobs by clearing off the empty bottles off the tables quickly so they dont build up, it doesnt matter.

I promised my Mum that I wouldn't drink out of the bottle. So tacky!

I had never given it any thought until we were told that they don't serve beer in bottles. I really don't have an opinion either way, but HWC puts it in the contract. How about this one: was anyone else given a 'no shot' rule?

Some people like it and some people don't. We all have our reasons. If you come from a non-drinking family and you are simply not used to it, as I am, then you might not like to see bottles at your wedding. Personally, I simply do not like the way bottles look.

no bottles-- they do show up in pics.. DH likes an imported beer... and our Catering hall didnt carry it, so we bought a couple of cases... his beer was put in a glass.. but FIL and BIL also drank it and some bottles were given...
