bottled beer vs beer in glass at reception

Original post by Lauram283

Do you think it is worth it to pay extra to have bottled beer at the reception instead of beer from the tap in nice glasses? I had heard that some places do not even allow bottles because they don't look as nice in pictures as glasses but I think most people have bottles. What do you think? Is it worth paying a little extra to have bottles?

I had to reply to this! I think that a bride with a beer bottle is cute! I walked around for some time with one, i figure i LOVE beer from a bottle...from a glass just tastes weird and every single irish bride in my family drank straight from a bottle and loved every minute :)

Its just my opinion, but I have never understood why people care so much about this.

nah...you looked pretty trashy at your wedding. i noticed. just kidding...

WELCOME HOME!!!!! it's good to see your first post after being on your honeymoon is on a beer post. it lets us all know what you've been thinking about the last 2 weeks. i can't wait til you post your review!!

Check to see if your hall even charges, some might not! I know my hall doesn't charge, I asked them. They pour the beer from the bottle into a class for the guest they just think it looks better then having a bunch of bottles on the tables for pictures.

To some this is important, and to others it isnt. If its important to you then ask them to put it in glasses!

some people prefer the bottle.. I am surprised they charge extra? thats completely up to you, but I do know they appear in pics

we will have bottled beer, but served in glasses... for the same reason listed by a lot of people above -- pictures! imho, the bottles don't look great on tables in the pics, esp. if it is a formal
affair.

I like beer in glasses better than in a bottle. I think it looks classier.

I am not having beer in bottles, they will all be poured into glasses. I can't imagine why they would charge extra.

We had either - I personally like my beer in a bottle and HATE it in a glass- sorry but a beer is a beer- its not wine- a beer is rugged- beer is in a bottle and wine is drank in wine glasses. I think its 'tacky' as some of you put it to put in a glass- beer is not a choice to drink something to be classy Beer companys take pride in their bottles b/c thats the way it is meant to be drank! I have too many memories of getting sick from bars that don't clean their taps correctly. We're sticking with bottles.

I had never given it any thought until we were told that they don't serve beer in bottles. I really don't have an opinion either way, but HWC puts it in the contract. How about this one: was anyone else given a 'no shot' rule?

I was just talking about this w/my parents today. I am having our reception at HWC too and I like the idea of 'no shots'. I want everyone to enjoy themselves at the reception but not get sloppy & my friends have a tendancy to get sloppy when shots are involved.

why is everyone restricting their guests from having fun? no beer bottles no shots, cmon this is a HUGE event- a Wedding not a funeral! Your guest look forward to having a great time, its bad enough no request to the DJ now youre gonna restrict how they can party too? I dont know, unless you know that your friends are going to act immature and rowdy at your wedding, I guess you have to do what you have to do, but for adults, I think variety and their choice is best. If you dont want it in the pics TELL the photographer! Just have fun, I think you guys are over thinking this beer shot stuff. Your wedding will be beautiful either way and 'classy and 'elegant'!!!

lots of places have no shot policies. there was a thread on this fairly recently. they will still serve them, just not in shot glasses...

It doesn't matter to me. As long as the tables are being cleared off of the bottles quickly, I probably won't even notice.

I had 'beer to be served in glasses' written on my contract.

But, one of our GM is holding a bottle of beer in his hand in one of our photos from the end of the night. I have a feeling that he asked the bar tender to give him the bottle, but I would have liked for the bar tender to have told him 'sorry sir'

I think that it's worth the extra money to get bottled beer - it just tastes better! Have it served in a glass or not, depending on your preference.

Also, she didn't ask if it was 'tacky', therefore I think it was a little snappish to dub drinking from a bottle so.

Perhaps we should think a little more before we type, and try not to be so negative.

The no shot thing is in our contract, its not something I ever even thought of (I haven't done a shot since the 90s). I just wanted to see if other reception sites had similar rules. But you're right, I'm sure people will have fun with or without shots.

I agree...and nferrandi has the cutest shot of her at her wedding drinking from a beer bottle. I love it!

I agree. I actually have a pic of me like this too, I think it's funny. I also think it's funny that most of the people who feel sooooooooo strongly about not having bottles are not yet married while those of us who couldn't care less already are.

Trust me, there will be plenty of other things that day for you to concentrate on than what vehicle your guests are using to get the alcohol to their lips.

As for the tap v. bottled beer - PLEASE get bottled beer, regardless of what you do with it afterwards. Tap beer = very nasty hangovers.
