I'm on a roll today! my bank account is crying right now!!! and so will I when my FH finds out i spent all this money today.
This is the glass we're using for the ceremony for FH to break (it's the color on the right):
And this is the mezuzah...the broken glass goes in the shell (the color on the left)...
those are beautiful! Can you explain to me what they are used for?

no prob. :) The glass is used at the end of a Jewish ceremony. The groom steps on it and breaks it. The meaning is to remember the distruction of the temple in Israel, but once the glass is broken everyone's happy again.
The mezuzah is hung up in the doorway to the entrance of your home. It also holds the torah. But I got one that will hold the torah and the glass that was broken at the wedding.

ok, i knew the mezuzah was in doorways, those are really pretty & colorful!
the glass breaking I remember from weddings so it makes sense to me now.

Its beautiful! I love that idea. I didnt know they made color glass that you can breakI.know some people take the actual wine glass they break, and put it into something.
My FH family says its bad luck to have broken glass in the house. But its not exposed glass.
I really want to do that. Where did you get it from?

Although I am not Jewish, my FH is, and he will be breaking the glass at our ceremony.
FH, being such a good Jewish boy, had no idea what the meaning behind the breaking of the glass was, so his mom filled him in. Our banquet manager said - Oh, I thought it meant the last time the husband puts his foot down. FMIL LOVED that one.

Dee, they are gorgeous!! I have never seen a mezuzah with the broken glass before, I have been to many doorways during work in the last 9 and 1/2 years!! I think it is such a beautiful keepsake!! Just give Jason some lovin' and he'll forget all about the price tag!!

Thats really pretty! We got one also like that for FH to step on.
If anyone is looking for them, you can find the glass at almost any Judaica store. I know they have them at The Collector in Merrick and Yussel's place in Merrick.
One thing, though, the mezuzuah doesnt hold the Torah, it hold a special prayer which also instruct you to put them up on the doorposts of you home. People feel that the mezuzuah actually 'protects' their home and more religious Jews will have paper inside the mezuzuah changed periodically.
