I totally didn't take this to heart, because I havent' read about it anywhere, but the lady at BabiesRUs - the one that like checks out your registry , told me there have been studies on bouncy seats. Something about jogging the brain or something - the bouncing movement. Is that POSSIBLE?!?! I didn't know what the heck she was talking about but she said some women have been refusing to buy one….I registered for more of a seat swing kind of thing - for no reason except I liked it better and my sister swears by it, but I was wondering if anybody had heard this weird bouncy seat story?

Re: bouncy seat weirdness
If you're talking about the bouncy seat that they sit in, I never heard anything like that. Luke has always been a very physically active baby and he never bounced in it enough to jiggle his brain around in his head. However if you are talking about the doorway jumper, Lukie had torticollis which is a long name for a weak neck muscle and we were told not to use one, that they make them use their back muscles too much when they should be using neck muscles. Our physiologist told us that she definitely thinks they are not good for babies in general, regardless of a neck condition or not. If you don't use it, the baby won't miss it. That's been my experience.

You would think that the woman at Babies R Us would know the source in which she heard such information otherwise I don't think she should of said anything to you without giving you the full story.
I myself have never heard anything about that when it comes to a bouncy seat. Mia has one and she loves it.

I have never heard that before PLUS the seat does not 'bounce' very hard at all. It isn't like shaking a baby and causing injury. If she sites a sources maybe I would look into it, but most of the help at BRU is not really 'expert'

Re: bouncy seat weirdness
She is probably thinking of shaken baby syndrom. I think the normal use of a bouncy seat, GENTLE bouncing of the baby is fine... just dont make it like the baby is in a 9.4 earthquake. The brain can become dislodged from the stem and cause death... but I dont see how anyone can think a bouncy seat can cause this... yes, the brain bobbles around when in the seat but the same thing also happens when you pick the baby up or put the baby in the car... I think normal use is fine... some people just get too worried.

Re: bouncy seat weirdness
I totally agree - just thought I'd throw it out there. Maybe she was talking about the bouncy thing in the doorframe. I mean - I thought about it on the way home and thought - well maybe if you like strap the baby in there and bounce ON the seat with your whole body so the kid is like flying in and out of it….weird right? I researched it a little bit and found nothing …hope I didn’t alarm anybody, just wanted to let you know the weirdness that Jersey BabiesRUs is providing!!!
