I like the ties, maybe your dad can wear the bowtie, its ok for your your Dad to be different.
This is what I am doing.. The guy at the Tux place actually recommended it. he told me to get the bowtie, cause older man like it!! Howerver, the GM ties, because I dont like bowties!!

My FH is demandin bowties.. I would prefer ties, but he is the one wearing it. It's not that big of a deal right?
It's not that big a deal, particularly if your FH really wants the bowties.
My FH is up in the air about it. I think he really prefers the tie, but may just side with my dad cause he respects him so much and he really values his opinion...we'll see how he handles it. I'll leave it up to him to decide (even though I prefer the ties)

Re: Bowties vs. ties
DH, the GM, and our fathers wore ties, but my grandfathers wore bowties b/c they preferred that. DH wore an ivory tie and vest, GM wore light grey/silver ties and vests, and our fathers and grandfathers wore darker grey ties and vests.

Re: Bowties vs. ties
FH and I both like the ties...for some reason they look more elegant IMO. My dad and grandfather on the other hand will be wearing bowties with their tuxes

we did ties-
I used this theory with my Dad- waiteres wear bow ties- you don't want to look like a waiter do you?
it worked
This is what my brother said, the staff at the catering hall will wear bowties, so you would want to stand out a bit. I like ties better.

Re: Bowties vs. ties
In minority here well not really I like BOTH. The reason we ended up with bowties was we have been to and in many weddings and wanted to be different...ties are the in thing right now for sure. Bow ties to us seemed classic though.

Re: Bowties vs. ties
Lol...it is funny that someone mentioned waiters wearing bow ties b/c at my brothers wedding a guest (not even family) wore a tux with a bow tie, and everyone kept going up to him thinking he was the waiter. The Gm didn't wear bow ties either. Ties look so sharp. FH looked so cute in it!

I'm not a big bowtie fan - but FFIL wants to wear one - he can, I won't mind. I want FH and his guys to wear ties though.

Re: Bowties vs. ties
You could see both in my review...my dad wore a bowtie, my DH and the GM wore regular ties (this was crucial...my DH didn't want clip-ons or 'fake rental ties') I think they looked super handsome!

Does the FH have to have a different color tie from the rest of the GM?
Nah-do what you want. Mine is wearing the same color because I don't really like the way white looks (that's just me thought). He will have a different boutonniere (it will match my bk).

Re: Bowties vs. ties
I did both. The groom and the groomsmen wore ties and the dads and the granddad wore more traditional bowties. You can get the idea of how it looked from this family shot:

DH and groomsmen wore ties, and my Dad wore his bow tie. Dad's seem to like those bow ties. I'm not sure what that's about!

Re: Bowties vs. ties
I'm minority here too...I vote for bowties. I was into the tie for a while there and anytime me and my FH went to a black tie wedding I would tell him to wear the tie...then after looking at him in all the pics with the tie I realized he just looks like he's in a reg suit with a black tie on....so now I'm back into the bowtie thing - very classy and traditional to me. Our wedding will not be black tie so I especially want him in a bowtie at our wedding...to not blend in with all the other men in their suits and ties!
