FH's dad's best friend passed away yesterday after a short terrible battle with cancer ( RIP )
This man was basically an uncle to FH and last month when we saw him he promised us he would be at the wedding NO MATTER WHAT. A few weeks ago he even told FILs that he would be there. After he passed, his widow even mentioned how hard he was trying to stick around for it.
So, FH goes up to her at the wake and hugs her and just as he is about to lose it he says 'You two promised to come to my wedding and I want you there - you still have to come'
O M G I almost died right there, I was actually looking for a hole to open up in the floor so I could sink into it! I was mortified - HOW INAPPROPRIATE IS THAT AT A WAKE!!!!!!!!
It truly ended up being a sweet moment - she hugged FH and promised she would be there bc he would have wanted her to go and she asked if she could bring a date ( they have a great sense of humor )
FH saw nothing wrong with what he did - I didn't say anything to him bc he is grieving and it isn't the time to nit pick - but what an awkward moment!
The world lost an amazing man with an incredible sense of humor. Just a few months ago he was teasing me that he was trying to be skinnier than the bride and that was why he was losing so much weight - so he could show me up at the wedding in a skin tight gown
We are going to hold on to the invitation until December and then we are going to hand deliver it to his widow - we dont want her getting it in the mail just yet. . . FH even wants to keep the envelope with his name on it but I don't know about that yet
Thanks for listening girls

Well, at least she didn't take it the wrong way and had a sense of humor about it. Sometimes they say the silliest things!!!

just a few days before he passed the nurse came in and said 'this is the button for morphine - do you have any questions?'
and he answers 'Sure, what is the capital of Venezuela?' just to mess around with her!!! She got all flustered and had to walk away LOL

awww im sorry for your FH and FFIL!
But I dont think your FH was wrong. From what you said the man really wanted to make it to your wedding. it was definetly a sweet moment, it was your FH's way of grieving and trying to comfort her. Dont feel embarrassed I think he did a sweet thing!

First and foremost, you, your FH ,and FFIL are in my thoughts. I am sorry for this loss. Heaven has now again another great person and you have a angel looking down on your guys.
i do not think what ur FH said was inappropriate at all... i think it was really sweet b/c he wanted to make sure that she realized that she is important to him ( and u) and that he still wants her to be a part of your lives when you get married.
This really made me tear up... your FH sounds like he is a great guy and deserves many And so do you....
We are all here for you!!!

Awwww....... Tilde. I'm so sorry. He sounded like a really great man.
And, don't sweat what FH said - it's really not that bad. He was just trying to think of a way to lighten the situation, and I'm sure the woman realized that!
As far as the envelope - I might change it. I dunno, that might be too hard for her.
You can do Mrs. Joe Smith..... that might be nice, because it's honoring him, but, not putting his name as Mr. KWIM?

i am soo sorry for your loss.. you, your FH and his family are in my prayers. He must have been an amazing person, laughter is so important and he seems like he was the type of person that brought that to a lot of people. I'm sure he will be at your wedding in spirit and will be watching over both of you.

i am so sorry for your loss. I wouldn't worry about what he said. I think it was a sweet gesture on his part to reassure her that he wanted her there. Wakes are a hard place to be... it's okay to laugh and smile and even joke a bit. I'm sure that moment meant a lot to her and she wasn't thinking 'oh my god, shut up about your wedding!'
you know?
Your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Aww sorry to hear the sad news. He sounded like a great man with a real funny sense of humor.
I would have been taken back if I was in your shoes but you are so right- he doesn't think he said anything wrong- men are so innocent.
I will say a prayer for you & FH and for the wife.

Sorry for your loss. I think hand delivering the invitation to his widow is a great idea. and she will really know how much you guys thought of them. It seems he was a great man with a great sense of humor.

Re: boys can be so innocent
thanks girls for all of your support
we went to the wake again today, it was a little easier this time. . .
guess who was there? ANDERSON COOPER!!!! i totally wanted to say hi to him, he works with one of the sons. . . but he was really respectful and sweet and the day wasnt about him so i didnt bug him ( wish i could say the same for others there, lol )
Also, FH signed us as 'Anthony and Matilde hislastname' I wish he had done it at a better occasion so i could be excited about it, ok heck i am a little excited about it
thanks again girls it is so nice to leave a hard place like the wake and then be able to come here and get support
