Bradley Method

Can someone please explain the differences between Lamaze & Bradley Method. I hear a lot of people seem to like Bradley better.
Where did you take the classes, my hospital only has Lamaze.

Re: Bradley Method

I know that Phly used the Bradley Method and so did Ron's wife Liz (owner of LIW). Both Phly and Liz were able to birth without medications. Liz had a home birth and Phly had a hospital birth.
I took hypnobirthing which is similar to the Bradley method and both methods do not agree with some of the panting type breaths of the Lamaze methods.
Here is what one website says about both methods.

Lamaze Method - Lamaze classes are most often offered through hospitals or obstetrician’s offices. The Lamaze method employs a number of techniques to help the mother-to-be prepare for the rigors of childbirth. It is best known for its method of controlled breathing patterns to ease the pain of childbirth, hypnotic visualization, and other comfort techniques such as partner massage, changing positions during labor, and the use of warm water. Lamaze classes also provide comprehensive information on various pharmaceutical pain relief medications.

The Bradley Method® - Bradley promotes drug-free births and is used by a lot of home-birth moms. There is intense emphasis on the father’s role during pregnancy and birth, asking him to become every bit as prepared and committed to natural childbirth as the mother. Some of the course tenets are avoidance of drugs during pregnancy, breastfeeding beginning at birth, and continuous contact with the newborn immediately after birth.

Whatever birth method or setting you choose, experts advise that you understand and accept that birth can be unpredictable, thereby altering the best laid plans. If you are knowledgeable about the birth process, you will be able to adapt to whatever the situation demands.
