Ah, girls! I just saw all of these replies! I checked the 'notify' box but it never let me know about all of these responses. Thank you so SO much for the warm welcome, congratulations and advice. ![]()
I actually found my photographer. Yay! I knew it was going to be a tricky thing for me...and I just wasn't happy with what I was finding in NYC. I had a very specific style in mind, and the photographers I loved were just way out of my budget, especially for how little they offered in their packages. So, I decided to expand my search to far and wide! I figured that I could probably find a photographer who I absolutely loved in a different state who had a better priced/better valued package, and be able to fly them here for less than what I was finding in our area. Turns out my wedding photographer is coming from CALIFORNIA. Craziness. It's a husband/wife team and even though I'm still going over my budget, it's the absolute most important thing to me (and to FH too), and it will be worth it. I also fell in love with her over the phone.
Our proposal: On July 4th, 2010, Phil (my FH) and I ventured into Manhattan to have a nice day alone. I wanted to buy my new camera and after purchasing it, Phil decided to take me to his favorite park (Madison Square Park) so I could test out the new equipment.
For two years or so, Phil has been saying the phrase 'So what do you think about us?' ... implying wedding talk, over and over, just to mess with me. I eventually started telling him not to say it unless he was seriously proposing. Still, he never stopped and continued to egg me on!
So, as we sat at the park on July 4th, he asked me 'So what do you think?' and I said 'About us? I wanna get married!!' Phil said 'Eh' to which I begged 'will you stop joking around?!'
Phil said 'fine,' pulled the ring out of his pocket, got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was totally speechless, just stared at the diamond and thought I was dreaming for a minute, but of course said yes![]()
A little irony is that in vague wedding planning chats we've had, we wanted a certain restaurant to cater our wedding. With that, this park we were at has 'sponsored' benches with a plate of a person or company that paid for the placement of that bench. Phil chose a bench from afar as we entered the park. When we got up to it, that bench was sponsored by the very restaurant that we want to cater our wedding! He had no idea in advance. We sat down and I said 'Wow, it's a sign!' I had no idea how much of a sign it actually was, since I would be engaged a few minutes later!
As a wedding photographer myself, I'm finding my days and nights even more fully immersed in wedding research and inspiration. It's insane. I can't tell whether I am working or planning anymore. There are no boundaries!
