Brazilians...stolen from 09 Board

Original post by bluekat16

A poster from 09 board asked if they are worth it?

I figured I'd post here and gett you ladies to weigh-in.

My opinion...I'd like to try it but I'm very shy about it because I'm plus-sized. I'm also afraid of the pain.

Ok...go ladies

If anyone has sensitive skin I wouldn't do it. I have had it done a few times, but twice the wax took off patches of my skin because my skin was so sensitive. It was not a pretty sight, which totally defeated the purpose, lol!

Ok I guess I won't be trying that anytime soon.

how soon before the wedding should we go?

sorry, never waxed

You want to go a few days before just in case of irritation. I have very sensitive skin so I'll go the Wednesday night before my wedding.

they have special wax for sensitive skin. they should have asked you... sometimes it costs more but it's worth it.

how about this

even if they hurt TWICE as much, they would STILL be worth it

Your post made me

Guess it's worth it huh?

Where do you go? I know you're a queens girl like me

i have gone to two great places

one is on austin street - spectrym
and one is on crossbay blvd - serenity

DH and I both joke about how we have to cut back so much to save for a house but that is ONE thing I am not willing to give up LOL

The pain is not that bad....well it is at the time but it is worth it.

Only cons - letting the hair grown out is annoying and ingrown hairs are even more annoying!

I highly highly highly rec. going to a nice spa like Bliss Spa nyc to get your first waxing.

the environment is relaxing, they use a thick wax that looks like it will hurt but doesn't...

my first time was not as bad as i thought it was going to be, after the 3rd time, it will be even easier!
and im a wuss when it comes to pain!

I do more than a Brazilian and am very pleased with the results. I will never do anything else again!!! It really only hurts while it's getting done and than it's over. A 1/2 of pain is totally worth the results.

I had my first brazilian a few months ago...hurt like hell...but totally doing it again a day or two before the wedding. I have pretty sensitive skin too, but there was no irritation or soreness or anything afterwards. It is uncomfortable, especially if you're shy, but you quickly get over that. I've heard people say take 2 advils 30mins before u get waxed and it helps....i have to take that advice next time.

How long do you girls wait in between waxings? I went in Jan and am not going back until right before the wedding (because of money) and I think because I'm letting it grow out so much, it's going to hurt just as much as it did the first time?

Re: Brazilians...stolen from 09 Board

I've gotten brazilians done a lot. They're not that bad. I was very worried going my first time, but it is worth it. It definitely does hurt, and each time I go and get it now, I still flinch when she goes to rip the pieces each time. But it's over pretty quickly. I go to a place in Queens, over by St. John's, on Union Tpke. I don't know the name of the place, I just know it by sight - it's a nail place. I've never made an appt, I just walk in and get it done. The women are nice. I was a little shy about getting naked and having some woman rip hair out from down there. But it's really not that bad.

You usually just lay on a table (and I usually have my eyes closed), and they'll move your legs around to get at each place. No one else is in the room besides you and the lady, so no one else sees anything. And the women don't talk to you, which I like cause who the heck wants to have a convo while getting that done! The place I go to costs about $30.

Also, when I go I ask for the whole entire thing to be waxed. I think a Brazilian technically means leaving a strip of hair running down. I think if you want it completely off, it's called a Playboy or a Telly Savalas (remember The Break-up!) If a place does the Brazilian, they'll do the Playboy too - not sure if the places call it that though exactly. I just always go in, ask for a Brazilian but when I'm in the room, I tell the woman to take everything completely off, and she does.

And I recommend getting it done a few days before the wedding, so any irritation will go away. Also, if you've never gotten it done before, I recommend going a while before your wedding and getting it done so you'll know what it is like.

I'd say about a week and a half is good time. Cause one time my friend let it grow for a while (don't remember how long), and it was more painful for her. You want the hair to be kind of long so they can get it, but not too long.
