Breast Pumps

Ok, so I have been told by a little birdy that I'm not worthy of the Pump in Style pump because I will be working at home PT and will be home with the baby.

So, can anyone recommend a good hand pump ?

I have the Avent ISIS and have never had a problem getting milk and its somewhat comfortable (for a hand pump!)

but you ARE worthy.....laleche leaque sells them less expensively on ebay - or you can buy a used one just for the pump and purchase the tubings and suction horns etc. new....even though you are at home - it is so much less of an ordeal to pump with an electric double pump, it only takes 10 minutes!! I think you're worthy!!

Sorry I totally 100% disagree with whoever told you to get a hand pump...You can get a NEW, sealed PIS/PISA for about $200 on ebay, The Leche Connection. She is wonderful.
Hand Pumps are great if you need to pump off a bottle once in a while, not for someone who is working (even PT IMO).
If you hand pump you can do nothing but hand pump during the session. You need to pump 10 minutes each breast = 20 minutes min. With the PIS, you can get a hands free bra/wrap for $35 and be done in 10-15 while feeding the baby, typing, using the phone. Also, my body needed 20-30 minutes to pump (even with the PISA). I used the hand pump when we were in the car while I had my hospital grade rental pump and let me tell you your hand HURTS after a while....
Formula will cost you a fortune so IMO a good breastpump is worth every single penny.
editted; never buy a used breastpump. it can carry disease to you and your baby PLUS it will void the warrenty. It is not worth saving a few bucks IMO. New horns do not make a used breastpump safe to use. You can go to the Medela site for more info on it.

Re: Breast Pumps

lol, I think I'm worthy also especially since my main reason for it is for travelling with my son to visit these little birdies via very long car trips which I am able to do because of my job and also I want to have something reliable because due to my husband's work schedule he will be taking care of early morning early feedings and I need something that can handle that he wants to be as active as he can while he is here.

I guess you can never make some people happy.

Dh and I discussed it and have decided that we will register for a inexpensive hand pump to make them feel better about themseleves and if all goes well then we will buy the In Style shortly after the birth.

Now we are just looking for a good pump to get. I heard Medela is a well trusted name and I know they have one at babies r us that comes in a starter type kit....
