So last week I tried on a dress that I really liked at Macy's Bridal Salon in Manhasset. Then last night I tried one on that I FELL IN LOVE with at Lillette's in Baldwin. I've tried on probably like 40 total and I'm down to these two. The only reason why I'm not immediatley buying the dress from Lillette's is because it's def out of my price range and the dress from Macy's is a very good price.
What do I do??????
Does anyone have any good/bad opinions about Macy's/Lillettes so I can weigh my pros and cons?
Thanks

Re: bridal gown advice???
Did you try looking for the dress you found at Lillettes elsewhere? You might find the same dress for a better price. How far out of your range is it?

Re: bridal gown advice???
whats the dress from Lillettes? Maybe you can find it cheaper elsewhere and then play the stores against each other and get it at a better price

It's a Paloma Blanca. That's a great idea. I'm going to do some research.

Re: bridal gown advice???
I LOVED LILLETTES. I purchased my dress there. Gerri is awesome & they have been nothing but professional & so helpful. I say you have to go with what you love most! If teh money is an issue that much then as long as you are happy with the other dress go for it!

I would look at RK Bridal in the city too... one of my friends fell in love with a dress that she really couldn't afford but found it at RK for MUCH cheaper!

Re: bridal gown advice???
I read a book about how to find your perfect gown (the authors are the owner of Kleinfeld) and it gave some really great insight. I would have never thought of gown shopping this way until reading this:
Think of the price of the gown as inclusive of the experience you get. The gown is like the party favor at the end of it all. You need to think about who is better to go through the process with (Fittings, etc) At the end of the day, its about your EXPERIENCE and not just your bridal gown.
It sounds like you're more into the pricier dress. I say just go for it-did you try to negotiate them down on price? I'm sure they can give you at least 10% off. Most places are willing to work with you. You don't want to look back at your wedding and say shoulda, coulda, woulda. I know 800 is a BIG difference, but if you think of the big picture you could just not get take-out for lunch for a few months and thats your 800 bucks. Or you could scale back on your bouquets.. For example, my FH and I are spending more on photo/video than we planned....but thats important to us, so we'll end up doing plain black limos for our bridal party, or have smaller bridesmaid bouquets.. Just make sure you do what your heart REALLY tells you. Good luck!

Re: bridal gown advice???
I think that's so true. The people at Lillette's were so nice and so helpful! The woman that helped me at Macy's was ok...she seemed like she had better things to do. So it def is about your experience. They did work with me and gave me a small discount but that's still the difference of like $800. They also don't take credit cards so that's making it hard for me. I'm gonna think about it this weekend...thanks girls!!

Re: bridal gown advice???
If you LOVE the dress that's a little more and like the other one less, get the one that's more money. You may get the cheaper dress, and think about the Paloma dress more and be unhappy with the cheaper dress. You don't want that to happen. You want your dress to be the one you want. Ask the people at Lilettes if they can give you a discount. Maybe there is a trunk show coming up and they can give you 10 or 15 percent off!

If you do end up deciding on the dress at macys...go to the one in Smithhaven.....even if its a bit of a drive.....they are so nice and have been great with everything so far. Even the day when I popped in with no appt.

Why don't they take credit cards? Thats random.. You actualy should do your down payment on a credit card so you have insurance on it, god forbid something happens. FYI one of my best friends got her Paloma dress at Bridal Reflections in Massapequa and she had a great experience there. Actually what she did was try them on in the Carle Place location, ordered it there (they had a bigger selection than massapequa) and then they shipped it to Massapequa and she did her alterations there. Everything worked out perfectly.

Re: bridal gown advice???
I would see if you can find the dress you love at another store. I found my dress at Lilettes but will order elsewhere b/c it was 300 cheaper at another salon. I did bring this to their attention (gerri) and she said we dont price match.

Re: bridal gown advice???
I don't know. They're kind of old school and they only take personal checks and cash. This happened recently with my girlfriend that just got married. We could only pay cash/check for our BM dresses (another store) and it was such a pain for all of us but we all dealt with it obviously. I'm gonna make some calls today and see if they can give me lower prices.

I heard the same thing from people who have been in the business...always make your deposit of payment on a Credit Card, so you have insurance in case something happens with the store.
