Bridal Party, do I include her???

Bridal Party, do I include her???

Okay, so here's my dilemma:

I had this friend who I used to be extra close with. We were best friends from 6th grade, up until 11th grade. Summer of 11th grade, I went away to visit family in Greece for 7 weeks. I come back and she's with this guy that was trying to date me, but pushed away because I had a strict family (not because I didn't like him, but I'm glad I never went out with him because meeting my FH is the best ever, he's really the best thing that has happened to me!). So I come back and she tells me she's been seeing him for 2 months. I forgave her because she was my closest and bestest friend at the time, and I was gullible and naive. We remained friends, but things have changed in the friendship.

It happens so that I met my FH though her because her mother was dating and living with my FH's father. Her mother is the sweetest and nicest people you will ever meet. She is still seeing (friends with benefits kind of thing) my FH's father but they don't live together anymore.

Over the years, I've tried to distance myself from her, and this passed year, we stopped talking for a while until she texted me 5 months ago that her dad has cancer, and I felt horrible not to talk to her about it. Now she thinks that we're best friends even though we hardly see each other or talk on the phone (she texts only, which is so annoying). She's a Debbie Downer kind of person, always depressed and upset and every time something good happens to me, she never really shows that she's happy. For example, when we were 17, I said I was taking my diver's test (we were with her mother and FH's father hanging out) and in front of all of them she said I hope you fail, and then proceeded with, I'm kidding. But it took her 4 times to pass the driver's test, which I thought was karma. When I got engaged, she even asked to try on the ring? What woman does that? And then asks me who's in the bridal party. I said family, but I have 5 family women and 4 best friends (not her).

My question:

Is it horrible not to have her in the wedding being that she's the reason I even met my FH?

I know it's a lot to read, and I hope you girls read it all to fully understand this lady. I see her every so often, and the worst part of my guilt of not wanting her in the wedding is that her mother would probably not want to talk to me again, and I have such a higher respect and love for her, than I do her daughter. Weird.

Ok I have a very similar situation as you. I have had a friend since I was in the 6th grade. We were best friends my whole life but she was always a downer, depressed, making inapproriate comments to let me know she was never happy for me and just jealous. Our friendship has been off and on the last 2-3 yrs because our lives are just going in different directions. When I got engaged, I texted her to tell her. She seemed happy. The next day when everyone called to congratulate me, she never did. She texted me 1 month later saying she was mad at me because I didnt go show her the ring. I ignored it. I asked her to be in my bridal party despite all of this craziness. She responded that our friendship has changed and she doesnt feel it would be the right thing to do. At first, I was crazzzzzzzzy angry. I mean, come on, we were friends for yrs. However, she would have brought me down the whole time, possibly ruined my day, and its not worth it. Choose your bridesmaids wisely because this is a onderful time in your life. You do not need to be stressed or upset. Hope this helps

Wow, I feel like it's the same person! haha

I texted her that I was back from Mexico and that Danny proposed and she texted me back the next day saying to call her when I wake up, which I didn't. Then she calls me and she's all 'Congratulations, that's great news,' blah blah, and wants to come over and hang out. Then she saw that 2 of my friend gave me cards, and she's like, oh, people gave you cards? I'm like yea, then she goes, 'I was going to get you a card, but I thought that since I'm coming to see you, I'm like your card.' <--- believe that????!1!!

Then we're on FB (she don't have fb, but I was showing her pictures of this girl we went to school with and her baby) and she goes, you still talk to those people? I was like yea, and she was sort of mad that I still see and talk to people that we went to Elem. school with and she goes to me that I'm her only friend. I'm thinking, WHAT!?!?!? How can that be when I really make no effort?? It drives me crazy, and I already have my 9 girls in my wedding part. I feel like I have to break the news to her that I am having my 4 best friends in the party and she's not going to be in it. I have a feeling that that's when she won't ever talk to me again.

It's your wedding. You have to do what makes you happy. If you don't want to include her, don't. A real friend would respect your decision.

It's your wedding (obv ) and you have to do what feels right to you, but I would just say to be VERY careful about asking people who can't be happy for you to be in your wedding party. The last thing you need to deal with is someone who is going to make it 'about them' and not be helpful with the rest of the BM's

Ask someone because you want them there, not because you feel pressured into it

It will be very stressful if you add people that you truly do not want there. For the most part they are involved in almost every aspect of the wedding-- all of YOUR most special days! You want people there who are there FOR YOU.. not to compare themselves & be judgmental.

It's not horrible. If you are unsure now you are going to regret it later. I have the same situation and leaving the girl out was the best thing I ever did.

Being that you stated many reasons for not wanting her in YOUR wedding, I would say she gets a big fat NO! Dont include her just to not hurt her feelings. This day is all about you and your hubby. Nothing should stress either one of you out. No negative energy. No negative people. Good times only :)

One more thing: one of my closest friends is a very negative person, and I am thinking twice about even having her in my party. I don't need someone making Debbie Downer comments on the best day of my life, and neither do you!

But just remember... it is your day & you choose who you want to be in the bridal party & also as a guest to attend!! It's sad but weddings are when the true colors in people really shine through. Don't think about making anyone mad, think about you & FH & making yourselves happy!!! HTH

I also had a friend I used to be close with.. she eventually got pissed she wasn't part of the bridal party... & hasn't said a word to me (yet cause I'm waiting for that day to come) about not even being invited (long story behind it)

Do not do it because you feel bad or guilty...you already know her personality and that will translate into other things for your wedding causing you stress. Save yourself the drama!!!

If you don't want her in the BP but feel like you may want to honor her or acknowledge her in some way (not because you feel like you should but because you WANT to!), consider asking her to be your 'something blue'! There are a few threads on here about it... you ask special people to wear something blue on your wedding day, as a part of your 'something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue' tradition. I think it's a cute and harmless way of maybe avoiding hurt feelings and also honoring people who you maybe can't have or don't want in the BP for whatever reason!
