bridal reflections review and question about their for sale samples??

Today was my first bridal shopping outing... I went to Macy's Manhasset and bridal reflections At both places, the service was good. I've read alot of bad reviews here about them but it wasnt that bad. In fact the sales girl at bridal reflections was very attentive and helpful and she knew almost right away exactly the dress I would love. It turns out the dress that I fell in love with is a way over my budget but... I'm sleeping on it tonight and will see if I can make it work... I just need to sleep on it a few...

Anyway what I'm really posting about is the samples they have in the lower floor. I saw the stairs leading to that area and asked if we could see the samples. The salesgirl immediately gave a face like she wasn't pleased that I was considering such a thing!!! and she said they weren't allowed to show customers that floor???? That kinda perplexed me... Anyone had this experience???

Because.. when I asked...again about the samples, the salesgirl showed me the ugliest possible dress.. I mean it was soooo ugly!!!!

I was just put off my not being allowed to view sample dresses. Is this normal?... I mean is there some right way to ask to see samples? Or are salons not inclined to let you see them unless you have a magic password? Someone help me????!!!!! I have champagne taste on a kool aid budget... I'd really like to see what's out there in the way of samples.. or maybe i might not have asked the right quesitons... What should I do?

Shop around - find out the designer and style of the dress and call different shops for prices. I know a lot of girls use Phyllis at gownfind / Bridal Elegance - she has great prices. I found my dress at Bridal Reflections, but bought it from a shop in NJ because it was several hundred less, and the people were just much nicer.

Thanks. Feels great to hear someone say that. I mean I am soo in love with this dress but... it is outside my budget and I really felt pressured to get it then and there. I told the girl that i didn't want to buy anything until my mom saw the dress and she was gracious but there was another girl- the receptionist who was a little more pushy - it was like good cop, bad cop!!! Anyway... I'll do that but the thing is that designer is only at bridal reflections in cp and massapequa so I feel a little stuck. I'll check out phyllis at gownfind.

another thing you can do to save $$ on a dress is to find the designer and style # and get the dress online. A lot of girls on this site have done that, and you can usually save a couple hundred $. Another way of saving money is having it shipped out of state, that way you won't pay ny sales tax. A friend of mine is having it shipped to her aunt who lives in D.C. and is saving 500$ on taxes.

I understand not wanting to spend a fortune...when you're trying to do things on a budget it is so hard to justify spending thousands of dollars on a dress you will wear once.
