Re: Bridal Registry ? about pots

Depends how much you cook. I got stainless steel cause I love cooking and do it whenever I can...however if you're more of a casual cooker I think the non-stick sets are the way to go!

Re: Bridal Registry ? about pots

i got stainless as well, from Kitchenaid. there is a big debate about teflon and it potentially being a carcinogenic (sp?) product. I'm not sure how true it is since I don't know much, but do some research!

Re: Bridal Registry ? about pots

I got the All-Clad stainless steel ones. The Calphalon stainless steel were my second choice. All-Clad are more expensive, so if you don't want to spend that much, I would go for the Calphalon.

I did a lot of research into this, and after doing that I would say stainless steel is definitely the way to go. It's tried and true, there are no claims thus far about it being toxic in any way, and it's REALLY durable - my mom still uses her stainless steel pots from over 30 years ago!

I'm not a fan of non-stick because of the claims of toxicity (btw, if you have pet birds, stay far far far away from anything with teflon, the fumes are deadly for birds), and I have read that aluminum may have a connection to alzheimers.

So, stainless steel it is, with one or two non-stick frying pans just for cooking eggs.

And you want pans, like All-Clad, that have a 3-ply construction, with a core of aluminum or copper in the middle that goes all the way up the sides. Copper is really more for serious cooks, as it's more expensive. Having the aluminum in the middle is fine, as it's not reacting with the foods. Having this core spreads the heat more evenly and efficiently.

hope that was helpful!

ha, ok, I didn't mean anything by it, some people just don't like to be contradicted, so I wanted to make it clear that it wasn't personal, that's all

Calphalon. I don't know why, I never cook (FH does!) but they were the only thing I registered for.

I put my stainless steel in the dishwasher also. Never had a problem. The instructions don't say not too.

Maybe some brands do!

Re: Bridal Registry ? about pots

Forgot to mention..even though I am all happy with my Calaphon set Consumer Reports didn't have great things to say about the pricy sets, the set from Costco actually scored better then all the others at less then half the price!
Too bad they don't have a registry... :)

Thanks! I decided to go w/the Emeril set at BBB - the Calphalon were too expensive for someone like me that doesn't cook everyday...thanks for all the info.

Re: Bridal Registry ? about pots

Emerilware, definitely. Made by All Clad but at a fraction of the cost. Great pots and pans for reasonable prices, we got both the non-stick and the stainless steel sets!
