Bridal shops please....

So I really have no idea of the style of dress that I want. I am not the type of a person that had her wedding planned from childhood and new exactly what type of dress i wanted. Although I dont want purchase my dress yet I figured I would start looking at styles to get an idea of what is out there. I live in Nassau and am not really trying to go to far. Can you ladies please help me by recommending some shops in Nassau? I will even go to Queens or as far as Melville.

You ladies are the best!!!

Try RK Bridals in Jamaica, NY, the store mgr is the best! Arrive earlier on the weekends, it tends to get packed really fast. Their prices are lower than most stores esp the no frills program.

I see you're not getting married until 2011. There is no need to look now. Styles change from year to year so what you like now, you might not like in 2 years.

I went to the Bridal Salon in Manhassat and Bridal Reflections in Massapequa and had great experiences there.

When I called them, they told me they carry different designers in each store. From Massapequa to Carle Place to Manhattan. They said each store had different price points.

I bought mine from The Wedding Plaza in FLoral Park (near Floral Terrace) i think they have a nice array of dresses for everyone, i.e. bride, bridesmaid, mother of the bride/groom.

I got mine at the Wedding Plaza too. Also went to RK Bridal and Macy's in the city.

If you just want to 'play', Village BRidal in Babylon may be nice. THey let my mom and I go through all the racks and try on whatever we wanted. Lilettes has a nice collection but they will pull for you once they narrow down what looks good on you. I ultimately got mine at Wedding Salon at Manhasset, but they are pricier and bring things out to you, so the inventory may be more limited; I'm not sure if it's a great place to 'play' at.

I like Bridal Reflections since they carry higher end such as Lazaro dresses and moderate to lower end. For example, Kleinfeld doesn't carry my Paloma Blanca dress which is around $2,500. Lillettes doesn't carry Lazaro which is generally around $3K-$5K. Bridal Reflections carries both. I found that Bridal Reflections was the most well rounded for choices in dresses and very conveniently located in Massapequa, Carle Place and Manhattan.

True, if you have a designer in mind, call first. The Massapequa store carries more of the Paloma dresses vs. the Carle Place store.

Good Luck

For a great experience, go to Kleinfeld in Manhattan. Randy Fenoli from, Say Yes to the Dress, (Friday, 10pm on TLC) is incredible. He is the bridal gown expert, knows instinctively what would look great on you and your sense of style that fits your price range-traditional, romantic, casual/beach, glamorous, classic, chic. He will make you feel like the only bride that walked into the store when in fact there are many.

Just know what your budget is. Lowest I am estimating to be around $1500 with $2K to $4k being average. Then there's $5K and upwards in the teens and $20, 000 and up if you go for St. Pucchi, Vera Wang or other high end designers. Know your budget!

Look for styles you like in magazines and online. Do some research on dress materials. I prefer real silk satin as opposed to synthetic (ie: David's Bridals) and consider it the most important dress I'll ever wear. I can also see the difference in quality and how it fits on me and feels. That is important to me. Some women are more practical and conservative which is fine. I am not a David's bridal bride nor a mid range Casablanca, Allure, Maggie Sottero type either but that's just me.

I tend to stare away from super trends. They do go out of style in 2-3 years so I want something to stand the test of time. Something classic yet current. Lots of fit and flare trumpet dresses which is a modified Mermaid. Most every dress is strapless but you can add cap sleeves. If you are a young and thin Princess bride, go for the ball gown. Traditional and romantic, look for an A-line which is classic and the Vintage, all lace dresses are popular now. Rouching and pleats for additional style and slimming but it's a current trend. Flowers, brooches, ruffles, feathers and all that jazz is daring and also a trend. Super tight trumpets, sheaths and low neck lines are popular now with women feeling more comfortable showing off their figure and free to feel sexy rather than traditional pretty.

Lots of choices out there. When you put on a dress and feel super excited and love the way you look-you'll just know.

I started out at David's Bridal at Roosevelt Field. Their dresses are very inexpensive and I was able to try on whatever I wanted. In your situation, it might be best because their customer serivice is not great so you can try on many types of dresses and you won't have a bridal consultant breathing down your neck to buy something so she can make a commission.

I ended up buying my dress a Paradise Bridal in Patchogue. They came highly reccommended and it was worth the trip (I'm from Long Beach). The bridal consultant was great. Even though I knew what styles I liked I still tried on a lot of dresses. She was very patient. We were able to pull dresses as we wanted and she pulled some too. They even had dresses that were under $1000! I thought their prices were very good.

Good Luck!

Starting out at davids bridal is a great idea. I have a very broad spectrum of what i am looking for. An upscale place might get annoyed with me trying on so many dresses in so many different styles..
