Re: bridal shower
There's no hard and fast rule---it's whatever you, your mom and your bridesmaids feel comfortable doing. My mom hosted mine and as a bridesmaid, I've never been asked to host anyone elses, though I know other people do that.

Re: bridal shower
I have actually heard that the mother of the bride should NOT host it. It should be hosted by the bridesmaids. Apparently it is improper etiquette for the mother of the bride to ask for gifts for her daughter.

Re: bridal shower
There is no specific person, sometimes its brides mom and BMs or just BMs.
My MIL hosted and paid for my whole shower b/c my mom was in a different state and couldnt afford it.

Re: bridal shower
My MOH and bridesmaids planned everything. I think my FMIL is helping because one of the bridesmaids (FSIL) isnt contributing because she isnt going to any of the pre-wedding events. My MOH tried to keep my mom from paying because she is single handedly paying for most of my wedding and has to fly to NY for every event (Engagement party, shower, wedding, dress shopping, etc.) If my bridal party was in no position to spend $ then I would have figured something else out, but it seems to be working. They wont tell me any of the plans though.

Yeah, dont worry about it! Just let them know its up to them. You can sit back on this one and be surprised!

Re: bridal shower
I've been in weddings where the BMs paid for the shower and also where the bride's mom paid for the restaurant. but the BMs did everything else for the shower.

Re: bridal shower
Everytime I've been in a bridal party I've worked with the other BMs to host the party for the bride. I heard somewhere that its not proper for the mother of the bride to host it, since it might seem like the mother is trying to get gifts for her daughter. I thought that sounded stupid when I heard it, but so far I've only been to or attended bridal showers hosted by the girls BMs.

Re: bridal shower
My mother is paying for mine.
I think it is so hard to ask your bridesmaids to come out of pocket for such an event! They already need dresses, shoes, hair, etc. My shower is costing over $1400 and how could I ask my 3 bridesmaids to pay for it? Ok...also my mom chose the restaurant, etc so it could have been done cheaper at someones house but there are over 50 invited and that is a lot for a house party!
Anyway...the last bridal party I was in (bride in Maryland) was alittle more traditional and had us pay for invitations, favors, decorations, wine, etc! It got pricey but her MIL kicked us back some money which was nice!!!!
Ok I don't know what my point is here because some people could say your parents are paying for the wedding and they shouldn't have to pay for the shower! So it could go either way! Ok hope I helped somewhat!

Re: bridal shower
my mom paid for mine, i know MOH bought a few things and she is planning with my mom and doing alot of it
i didnt want my BP to pay for it, we invited 70 ppl and its hard to ask your bp to pay for it, this is for me personally. One is getting married this year, another one just moved into a new place, my cousins are in school and on their own so paying for all that.

Re: bridal shower
The last 2 showers I've been to was hosted by the grooms family. I don't really want a bridal shower but I'm pretty sure my FMIL is hosting mine because she doesn't have a daugther and I am not depriving her of a bridal shower.
My mom hosted my bridal shower, but I planned it. My bridal party however did plan all the games and events for the shower.
I was in one wedding where the bridal party paid for the shower, and IMHO I think it's incredibly rude to ask this of your girls. The expenses that your bridesmaids have is ridiculous as it is. Between buying a dress, planning (and paying for) a bachelorette party, hair/mu, an engagement gift, a shower gift AND a wedding gift - I just felt it was inappropiate to ask my BP to throw my shower as well. JMHO.

Re: bridal shower
When I got married (many, many years ago!) it wasn't 'proper' to have a relative of the bride hosting the bridal shower. But that was the days when you had a shower in your home with tea sandwiches or cold cuts. Nowadays, a shower can add up to quite a bit of money and I know that my daughter's BMs and her MOH may not be in a position to easily handle that type of expense, so I intend to pay for the shower and they can plan it (I hope with some input from me too!)

Re: bridal shower
Years ago...it used to be the bridal party that hosted the shower. As time has gone by and weddings getting larger...mothers and mothers in law also having expectations....now most mothers usually assist if no pu the cost for shower.
