Isn't the bridal shower suppose to be specifcally the brides close family and friends? So when i intially said I only want 50 people at my shower, and told FMIL that she can invite 20 people, that was fair right? I mean, My family (including FH;s immediate family) and friends should come first. Well guess what?!! FMIL thinks she should have a right to invite more people!!!!! AND INCREASE THE HEADCOUNT FROM 50 TO 70!!!!!!! ***!? IS SHE PAYING FOR THIS??!! NOOOOO! My mother is!!! And MOH/Sis!!! And for once they listened!!
And I don't want people I don't know there!
Can someone please tell me that I am right and that I am not being selfish?!! I didn't know FMIL was the bride... I thought I was!!

I told FH to tell his mother, don't want to be the one, and tell her that it is only for immediate family (like her cousins, sister, sister in laws, and immediate friends)....I don't want a big hoorahh and would like to keep it just to my immediate fam and closest friends.....
LETS HOPE she listens, otherwise, there might be a prob

I forsee a similar problem. I feel really bad for my mom and my sister who are throwing the shower for me... we literally have like 10 family members and FMIL wants to invite like 50+ people to the shower. I think that she should be helping out if she wants to invite all those people, but unfortunately there isn't a tactful way of saying that. It s ucks.......
OMG you're so right! I thought I was going to have this problem too, but I think someone knocked some sense into FMIL and she's only asking for 10-15 people.
You have to talk to FMIL or tell FH to do it if you think he can. She has no right to invite the world. Close friends and family only! A shower is NOT a small wedding!!!

the worst part is, my sister is planning this as a mad hatter tea party, complete with asking the ladies to sport hats for prizes and tea and lady finger foods. She has been planning for months. My family and Friends, and FH's close family GETS Me & her! Outsiders won't; they will think it odd and will most likely poo on the idea and refuse to participate. And worse off, they will expect something its not. I'm so pissed!

I've seen some gift grabby brides invite everyone and their mother! But that's definitely not the norm. That's insane. If she wants that many extra people, she should have to pay the difference.

I feel your pain. FMIL is inviting 70 people from her side alone when my mom told her 50 max. I have about 30 from my fam and about 20 friends so you do the math.

I just looked up the proper shower ettiquete and a website said that traditionally its the BRIDES IMMEDIATE FAMILY AND CLOSET FRIENDS. They gather to help the bride and give advice about being a wife. Well FH better deal with her tonight, or I am going to flip!

Oh My!!!! Well you are completely justified for feeling the way you do!!! I had to deal w/this last night I told my FMIL that they could invite 60 ppl to the wedding (this includes the ppl she invited to the E-party). When she handed FH the list last night there were 73 ppl on it. She justified that 13 of the ppl wont come but we HAVE to send them an invitation?!?!?!?!?!?!
I swear these ladies are crrrraaaazzzyyy!!!!!

Wouldn't mind so much, but my parents have and are laying out a LOT OF $$ for this wedding, and I just think that if she wants to invite more than she needs to help pay for it. And she doesn't feel that way, it seems.
Plus its not what I want at all. I really don't want people I don't know there. Its ackward, you know...

It should be the way you want. I dont think your wrong for getting upset. I would too. I want people I know. I dont want to be meeting people for the first time at my bridal shower.
