Bridal Shower Guest List -- HELP!

My MOH asked me to get a list of potential guests for my bridal shower together as soon as possible so she won't have to bother me any more regarding the shower I am not supposed to know about in the first place. I had my mother, myself and my FMIL get together a list of people we'd like to invite. Well the list is over 80 people. My FH has a huge family and I have lots of friends, long term friends that is... Where do you cut off the guests??? I'm having a hard time... I have a very large guest list for my reception, 260 people. I don't know the proper etiquette when it comes to who gets invited to what! Is there a cut-off?? PLEASE HELP, I'm going nuts over this

Thanks a bunch!

Re: Bridal Shower Guest List -- HELP!

Personally, I don't believe in 'cut offs' when it comes to inviting people IF they are important to you and you want them to be part of your day. If all 80 women are important to you, then invite them all. There's probably a good chance that not everyone will be able to make it, so unless budget is a major issue, you'll probably end up with about 15-20 percent less women than you're inviting.

However, when I put my list together, I didn't include all the wives/girlfriends/fiancees of the male guests. I just invited the women from my husband's immediate family (mom, sis, aunts, grandmothers). I did not invite his second cousins and distant relatives. Most of them live out of state, so I knew they weren't going to attend anyway.
The rest of my list was my close friends, cousins, aunts, great-aunts, grandmothers, and bridal party.

Re: Bridal Shower Guest List -- HELP!

Sorry, I guess cut off was the wrong word Anyway, thank you for your response. I'm pretty much doing what you did... budget is really not an issue, I was just thinking of a way to make it easier on my MOH... Thanks!

Re: Bridal Shower Guest List -- HELP!

My MOH and I both are in the same situation as you. She is engaged also and is inviting over 300 people to her wedding and her shower list is around 80. I'm inviting 200, but my list is about 70 but a lot of them are out of state and I know they won't come. I'm just going to give her the list and let her and my mom decide who to cut if anyone.

Re: Bridal Shower Guest List -- HELP!

I had the same problem. My reception list was 270. My shower list included our families, our cousins girlfriends & close friends. I left off work friends. About 25% couldn't come to the shower. My bm's thorugh a beautiful garden party in my MOH's backyard. . It was beautiful. They made most of the decorations and the food items were wraps and salads.

Re: Bridal Shower Guest List -- HELP!

Good idea! I guess technically I shouldn't stress should I? I mean isn't this supposed to be a secret anyway?

Geez, ever since I got engaged, I've been not myself at all! Stressing over everything! Sometimes I think it's too much. Anyone else feel as stressed as me! For three months I've been thinking and planning.... this is supposed to be fun, isn't it?? When do I get to that part? Sorry... I guess I needed to vent

Re: Bridal Shower Guest List -- HELP!

I was just so happy to see this post because I thought I was the only one stressing about this. I am Septemberbride2003's maid of honor
I am in the same exact situation my FH's family is huge. His aunts and first cousins adds up to 40 people!!!
The only difference is I am on a budget with this. My mom just cant afford it and we dont have the room in the house. I try so hard not to make it my problem since I shouldnt have any idea what is going on but it is difficult. Any suggestions here?
