So my cousin got an invitiation to a bridal shower and this is what it said....
By request of the bride, please wrap all gifts in clear paper.
She claims this is some kind of new trend! I never heard of such a thing! Any of you run in to this? I think it's kind of rude. I mean, watching someone open a million gifts isnt always the most entertaining thing but um...isn't that the main event of a shower???????

i've seen some brides talk about it as well. Personally, I like seeing the bride open gifts and i like playing bingo

'by request of the bride'?
Sorry, but the bride should make no requests on the invitation of her shower.

Yeah I have never heard of that before and I dont like the sound of it either! I mean, I see how it can be annoying opening presents in front of everyone, but I feel it is kind of rude... and when you buy a present for someone sometimes it's important to see them open it!

Re: Bridal Shower New Tradition?
where the heck do you even get 'clear' wrapping paper? sounds like a stupid new trend if it is indeed a trend...haha...but that is JMO!
I am glad I am not the only one to find this idea ridiculous!

I agree. The reason behind this is so that the bride does not have to waste 'time' opening the gifts. She can just see what each gift is.
IMO that takes the fun out of it. Yes, it may be a bit boring to some guests, one of mine was on her blackberry the whole time, but that's what the shower is about. The whole surprise element.

Re: Bridal Shower New Tradition?
it is a newer thing but becoming very common.....wouldnt you rather spend more time socializing with the bride and enjoying the party then watching her open 8 million place settings, china glass, andsheets??? usually the most immediate family will wrap some special stuff, maybe do a little lingerie thing from the bridal party so there something for her to open, but those are more of a surpise b/c she didnt register for them....i fully intend on requesting it, but not for it to be worded quite like that. i hate showers simply for that reason of sitting there and ohhhing and ahhhhing as the bride goes 'Oh its my blender' or 'Yay its my pots!'
BORING!!!! I hope it becomes more of trend so that its more acceptable!

Re: Bridal Shower New Tradition?
It's called a display shower. It is actually become relatively common. Usually people wrap in cellophane. I certainly wouldn't have put 'at the request of the bride' on the invite though. Usually people do it who are having huge showers and can't spend time opening all the gifts...

Re: Bridal Shower New Tradition?
we did this for my cousins baby shower bc my cousin said people hate going to showers and watch opening gifts, so her sister(my other cousin) and my aunt decided this would be a good idea...so on the invitation after trying so hard to come up with something it said:
save the wrapping this time around, bring your gift as it was found...
people brought their unwrapped gifts or gift bags and then my cousin sat there and held up everything she got and opened cards. it was basically the same thing

Re: Bridal Shower New Tradition?
i've never seen it before but i guess if it's a large shower maybe it's so she doesn't have to open everything in front of everybody.... some people feel it takes to much time & others are just uncomfortable doing it. To me it was so much fun & honestly isn't that what showers are for??

Doesn't this take some of the fun out of it??? I have never heard of a bride requesting anything on her invitation either.

Re: Bridal Shower New Tradition?
I think we need to be alittle receptive to this new idea.
I went to a shower with 90 people invited. There is no way there would have been enough time to open EVERY single gift so here sister wrote a cute poem on the invitation which basically said to wrap your gift in cellophane. Now the bride still opened every single card and held up every single gift and it still took forever! But it was better than what it would have been!!!!
So that being said I think it is a good idea for big showers....and it allows the bride to see and hang out with everyone!!!

yea - this is MUCH cuter....i think 'at the request of the bride' makes it a little tacky...

Re: Bridal Shower New Tradition?
Its actually a tradition that they do in Italy... everyone brings there gifts to the house wrapped in celophan... its suppose to be a display of the gifts so everyone can see what she got!

Re: Bridal Shower New Tradition?
i heard someone wanted to do this and i thought it was a little tacky- i dont know, it just comes off to me as the bride doesnt want to 'waste' time opening her gifts...i dont know comes off as selfish and rude to me...i think showers are boring but opening presents is part of it - so i dont like clear wrap idea it offends me a little
