So my cousin got an invitiation to a bridal shower and this is what it said....
By request of the bride, please wrap all gifts in clear paper.
She claims this is some kind of new trend! I never heard of such a thing! Any of you run in to this? I think it's kind of rude. I mean, watching someone open a million gifts isnt always the most entertaining thing but um...isn't that the main event of a shower???????

Re: Bridal Shower New Tradition?
As mentioned before, I just feel like the whole point of the shower is to 'shower' the bride with gifts. I mean, if you skip that... then why even call it a shower? And I honestly don't even think the bride should request anything on the invitation. It's an honor to even be having a shower and to have people bringing you gifts, and wanting to see you open them... don't request that they do things a certain way. It seems really bridezillaish to me. Most people get their gifts giftwrapped where they buy them too. I don't think BBB or Macys have clear giftwrap (I could be wrong though) and that's another inconvenience for your guests.
Plus most people like to do the hat thing, or I want to use the ribbons/bows to make bouquets for my rehearsal... how else would I do that if I didn't have ribbons or bows from my gifts?

to me, the point of a shower is to help the couple start their new life together, and to be able to assist them in buying things for their home...wrapped or not wrapped what's the difference?????????

'by request of the bride'?
Sorry, but the bride should make no requests on the invitation of her shower.
ditto....very rude!

Re: Bridal Shower New Tradition?
I guess it depends on your family then because I know that I have seen this done at many family showers and nobody thought it was tacky or rude. They actually preferred it done this way because as mentioned before most of the time the bridal party opens the gifts for the bride anyway to speed up the process. So instead of having the bridal party open the gifts it just takes out one extra step. The gift will still be held up and you will say who its from just witout the giftwrap. I dont think I would put 'at the request of the bride' on the invitation but all in all I think its a great idea.

Its not a surprise whats wrapped inside, the surprise is who got it for you.....You already know what your getting because you have a registry!
Some ppl think registries are tacky, and that its rude to ask for specific gifts....I think registries are great, and I think clear wrap is awesome. More time to spend with my guests and enjoy my special day! I think its more tacky to sit there and open a billion gifts and not get to talk to anyone.

Re: Bridal Shower New Tradition?
I think it's kinda tacky but if you had 80 or 90 people at your shower it's understandable. Really, I'd understand in that case if the bride didn't open ANY gifts. It seems like it'd get boring after awhile. I don't like to be the center of attention... I can't imagine people watching me for that long lol I'm glad that I am only having 15 people at mine - I don't even think I'd know 80 people to invite!

not really, unless you only put a few things on your registry. I have 3 registries and each one has TONS of things and i know i wont get everything off all my registries. I think just on my crate and barrel registry i have 130 items lol. So it would be a surprise to what is actually bought.
For showers registries arent tacky, ppl say not to put registries with wedding invites but shower invites are fine bc somebody is throwing you the shower, as a host you cant ask for gifts.
The point of the shower is to shower the bride with gifts.
I think everyone should do what makes them happy though.
