My aunt's best friend is like family to me. She is planning her oldest daughter's shower and has run into brick walls all along the way.
They live in Jersey, but she decided to book the shower Nov 2 in Staten Island. She spent $350 on invitation and they are all done.
NOW she comes to find out that the NYC marathon is that day and it goes over the Verrazano bridge! she is besides herself and doesnt know what to do. My mom, sister and i can stay at my aunt's house the night before in Staten Island, but there are about 15 other people who are from Brooklyn and Long island.
Then just to put the cherry on top - the night before is Daylight Savings.

Wow, this stinks!! I know it is hard, but is there any way she can change the date? There is plenty of time to give people notice. She can just call people to inform them of the change. It isn't ideal, but at least people might be able to make it there.

The only other date the place has is a week before christmas and she doesnt want to do that.
I may suggest we switch places. I will tell her about the paperlesspost. THanks!

I feel like I went to a baby shower in NJ last year on the day of the marathon...I had no issues. If you leave early enough (before they close the bridge) and then leave after it's back open - you should be fine.
I mean...we're still talking about Staten Island traffic...but the marathon didn't ADD to it. LOL

I live in Bayonne and travel to Staten Island everyday. Depending on the time travelers might have the best commute by going through the city then Bayonne or public transportation to the city and then taking the SI Ferry over and doing something with transportation on your end. Good luck with it all

This. We've gone to my future in-laws Jersey in the past on the day of the marathon. As long as you can make the time early enough, before they close the bridge, you should be ok.
