I have a question about the bridal shower. I live in California and my wedding is going to be in NY as well as my shower. My mom has expresses some concerns about how difficult my shower is going to be since I'll be coming in from CA. Has anyone ever had this problem. My mom pointed out that I will not be able to receive any gifts (at least physically) and that they won't be able to surprise me. Do people just send the gifts to CA? My friends and family are dissappointed since that wouldn't be any fun. We are registered at a couple of places. Any suggestions????

Re: Bridal Shower Question
My sister planned her wedding from out of state and we threw her and her FH a couple's shower, since his family was from Eastern Europe, and didn't arrive until a few days before the wedding. They received a ton of gifts, but they were able to drive back to their home with some of the big ones. Everything else we ended up shipping back to her.
She wasn't too upset about not being surprised - that seems to be a regional thing anyway - it's not as common in other areas as it is here....
FH's couisn is preganant and lives in London...she came to NY for her baby shower and everyone got her gifts...she shipped what she would definitely need...and the rest will be taken in drips and drabs when people go over to see her and the baby...

Re: Bridal Shower Question
I will be going to PA for my bridal shower (shh but I don't know that ). I just figured that whatever I get can be shipped back to Florida or they can send the items to me for delivery after I get back and include a picture or decription of what they got me in their card. Somehow it will all work out.

Re: Bridal Shower Question
I kind of wish that they didn't try to surprise me for my shower, I would have more prepared and relaxed. I don't think it's a big deal if you are not surprised.

Re: Bridal Shower Question
I am throwing my sisters shower this June in NY and she lives in SC. She knows when the shower is but she doesnt know any of the little surprises I have planned for her. She will be arriving on the thursday before the shower and I wont let her into my house until that day (we are having it on My new back deck). It is a whole hawaiian theme (which is also a surprise)
No one is mailing the gift to her home in SC, cause then the shower wouldnt be has much fun, she will take some things back with her on the plane and we will ship somethings and also anyone driving to her Wedding in Sept will try to fit some gifts to take with them.
I guess its up to the individual, I just know I didnt want to throw a shower with no gifts, so I made the decesion for her.
good luck kimberly

Isn't it expensive to ship a ton of gifts?

Re: Bridal Shower Question
My sister lives in North Carolina but her shower was in NY. It was hard to surprise her b/c she knew she was going to have a shower at some point. We told her that she was coming in for a big Communion party for my cousin but we think she really knew (which was ok). As far as gifts...she got tons. Some she took home with her on the plane (the ones she could fit). The others we shipped to her in NC. IT was a little expensive but worth it. Also, everyone had a great time even though my sister knew about the shower.

Re: Bridal Shower Question
I was recently in Los Angeles, and my sister-in-law threw me a shower out there for my family & friends that won't be able to come to my shower here (in NY). I got most of my gifts from Bed,Bath & Beyond, I returned everything, got a store credit and just bought it when I got home. It worked out well.

Re: Bridal Shower Question
Bring an extra suit case (empty) to your shower destination and then pack it full of your presents and send it home. Most airlines let you have 2 items in cargo.
