I am obsessed with Alice's Tea Cup in the city and having a 'Mad Hatter's Tea Party' themed bridal shower. Most of my guests are from Long Island. So my question is- is it OK to have my shower in NYC and make people travel there? I've traveled to other states for my cousins showers, so I think it's OK but what do you ladies think? The locations easily accessible by subway, if that makes a difference. Or is there anything on LI that is like this place?

OMG thats the theme of my shower too! Yay! I think you should have the shower wherever you like. Manhattan isnt far. The only reason I'm not having mine there is because it will be a pain in the neck for my guests to schlep my gifts on the subway and more of a hassle for me to schlep all my gifts home. JMO

Re: Bridal Shower Question: Would you travel to NYC?
We had a private tea part at Alice's!!!!!!!!!! I love it!!!!!! It's a great venue for a bridal shower!!!! I'm not 'afeared' of the city lol so I would be there and so would my mom. But a LOT of people are completely against going into the city for some reason! I encountered this when I was looking into venues for the WEDDING! People were like 'why the city, why so far' blah blah blah. You know your crowd best. I just wanted to suggest also, in case your guests would be more willing to take a drive out east, there's a GREAT little tea house in Stonybrook. I went to a tea party birthday there and it was soo sososos cute. I will look it up for you. Good luck!!! LOVE YOUR IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ETA: The place in Stonybrook is called Robinson's Tea House. Good luck!!!!! )It's a very traditional tea room with tea sandwiches and petit fours and all!

THIS IS MY WISH FOR MY BRIDAL SHOWER TOO!!!!! I SO WOULD! However knowing most of my BP and Family they wouldn't. Another option is there are some local tea 'salons' here on the island.
One is Milk and Sugar care in Bayshore: http://www.milkandsugarcafe.com/
And the other is Robinson's Tea Room in Stony Brook: http://www.zagat.com/Verticals/PropertyDetails.aspx?VID=8&R=41006

Maybe its not completely the same situation but I'm the opposite, all my friends live in NYC and my shower is going to be on Long Island. Nobody has cars so we are all taking the train and then cabs to the restaurant. I think its totally fine IMO!

I woulld definitely travel to the city for a shower. Especially not mind for family and friends. See if you can get free parking or a discount so it isn't so bad.

Re: Bridal Shower Question: Would you travel to NYC?
I think it depends on the age of the majority of your guest list, and where most are from. I personally have no issues with going into the city and don't really understand LI'ers who do have issues with it, but I would understand if some older family members (middle-aged and above) would find it difficult. Also, manouevering a large gift into the city may also prove difficult, as well as you picking up all the gifts from the restaurant (it may be hard to find parking directly in front to load everything up). I would say that unless you have a particular attachment to THAT tea place, you could probably find something in LI that would be easier for you and for the majority of your guests.

I absolutely LOVE Alice's Tea Cup and I think that you should go for it!!! The city is so easily accessible, and I am sure your guests will be willing to make the trip. I have been so to many showers that I have had to drive to, and at least your guest have the option of taking the subway, train or drive. Do it it sounds like so much fun!

i live in nyc and am having my engagement party on long island. it's a train ride - no big deal. people can travel. it's not like you're asking them to go to guam.
