Bridal Shower Stress

Bridal Shower Stress

Ok. I am having a bit of a breakdown lately. All the stress of the wedding since it is coming closer and closer is getting to me. I know I have no control over the bridal shower and I have never been to one so I am not sure exactly what is normal. My mother is under the impression that all of the woman that are invited to the wedding are invited to the shower. Is this true? It's too late because the invites were sent out but I need some comforting words from other girls out there. Am I going nuts for no reason? I just don't want it to be awkward for my guests or myself when people show up who have never met me before. Hopefully if they don't feel comfortable they just won't come. I just feel a lil weird about it. Maybe I am overreacting. Help!!!

Re: Bridal Shower Stress

breathe.... breathe.... here are some shower basics:

-- Women show up with gifts.
-- Women eat.
-- Women watch you open gifts and perhaps play the ever-popular 'bridal bingo' game.
-- Women leave.

Don't worry about it!!! I'm sure you'll have a blast, let your mom do her thing... who wants to come will come, and who doesn't want to, won't! Just sit back and enjoy, don't let the stress get to you! You're not even the planner -- so why stress?

Don't worry about it. There is nothing you can do, so just enjoy it when it comes. My mother was the same way. She invited everyone to the shower that was invited to the wedding. A lot of people that were from FH's side that didn't know me didn't come. And those that did come that I had never met before, it was very nice metting them. Just relax and wait for the big day to come and you'll see, you'll have a great time!!!

Thanks. I'm feeling a bit better now. It always helps to hear it from someone else.

Re: Bridal Shower Stress

My wedding has a guest list of something like 80 women. Only 35 or 40 were invited for my shower. Like everyone said, it's just a fun day that is all about you!!! So enjoy it, and I'm sure your BP will do a wonderful job!

normal is whatever you want it to be.

no. usually people who are local (and/or have a high probability of attending) and close to the bride are invited. but again, normal is whatever you want it to be.

Re: Bridal Shower Stress

Well I spoke to my mom last night and she cleared some things up. The out of town guests were not invited so I feel better. Thanks everyone for your input! I will stop worrying about that part of the wedding

Re: Bridal Shower Stress

All our family is from nearby areas and the groom's are about 2 hours away. I had intentions of inviting only the local ladies, but it was the groom's mom who said their side of the family was looking forward to coming to NY for the shower. My daughter has met most of them but ever so briefly. I think MOG was concerned she would be expected to host a shower of her own.

PS. I would have invited 40 women. Now we have to squeeze in about 65. I would say about 2/3 of the women invited to the wedding will be invited to the shower. I wouldn't worry about anything. This is your mother's call and absolutely no reflection of you or your taste. Sit back and enjoy this phase of the wedding preparations. My daughter is thrilled this is one aspect she doesn't have to stress over.

I was feeling the same way. I did not invite all the girls that are going to my wedding.....

Re: Bridal Shower Stress

I can soooo relate to you!

All the women here made me feel so much better. They're right, just sit back, let them plan & enjoy the day.

If too many people show up, oh well...more gifts!

I felt the same way though. I didn't think all the women invited to the wedding should be at the shower...especially those that didn't know me. But, I'm out of my planning now. I told them NOT to involve me, WORK IT OUT THEMSELVES!!!

(Just tell me to look pretty that day!)
