bridal shower superstitions

i was randomly talking about this with one of my friends and we both realized we didn't know much of what ppl say about showers. hehehe

could u all list things thae random things u know or heard are good/bad luck at a shower???

here's what ive found online so far...some of which ive never heard of

The first gift the bride opens should be the first gift she uses.

Everything the bride says as she opens her gifts will be repeated on her wedding night.

You're not supposed to break the ribbon on your gifts or it's bad luck.

You're also not supposed to receive a knife as a gift or it creates tension in the friendship, so you give the gift giver a penny for it.

You shouldn't hand your spouse a knife either.

I was telling FH about that one and he was cracking up b/c he said that means i am going to break all my nails that day!

My mom would not even let us open our engagement gifts with a knife....

All the other supersitions I have heard of....

Actually the one about everything u say at the shower u will say ur wedding night, I went to a shower and the MOH wrote random things down and repeated them at the end of the shower and it was the most hysterical thing I have ever heard!

Re: bridal shower superstitions

I heard the ribbon thing and I heard that the bride should never HOLD a knife... which probably stems back to some bride to be cutting her finger off or something like that!!

I never heard any of the others.

I'm laughing at some of these because the first gift I opened was my new everyday dishes (2 place settings) and I know they took notes on what I commented on each gift and that got read back (supposedly going to say all that during the wedding night).

I got a steak knife set as well and yes I broke some of the ribbons on the gifts fighting to get them open

Had I known then I wouldn't have done all that..
