bride/father and groom/mother dances

Do we have to do these??? I know it is nice to do etc but does it look really bad if you don't do these dances? Does everyone join in? When are these dances done? etc....

I've never been to a wedding that didn't have them.
You can do them anytime during the reception,I guess. If you feel uncomfortable, you can have peope join in or DJ can shorten the song to go into next dance.

Re: bride/father and groom/mother dances

I can relate to this topic.

I am being escorted down the aisle by my uncle due to the fact that my dad passed away several years ago. I was not going to do the Father/Daughter dance, but my uncle is really looking forward to it, as is My FI is looking forward to the Mother/Daughter dance, so we will be doing it.

I didn't do them. I did dance with my Dad that night but I didn't want to make a big production out of it so we just mingled in with the crowd.

We are doing them. To take some of the pressure of, I was just to a wedding where they did both the father/daughter and mother/son dance at the same time. They danced to Unforgettable together. I think FH really wanted to do it this way since he hates to dance, but my dad wants his spotlight and so do I!

My brother is giving me away because my father passed away 2 years ago. I have been searching for a song to dance with me to. I am extremely close to my brother so I definetly want to have a special dance with him. I think it's your choice if you want to do the dances. I wouldn't say it would look bad if you decided not to do them. My FI is not dancing with his mom. They have never been very close, but he will be having a special dance with his sister.
It really is a personal choice for you. Good Luck with your decision.

My dad is ill & can't make the wedding. I will dance with my stepfather who I love very much. I think my mom will be walking me down the aisle. She raised me and I think she would be extremely proud to do it.

ABC

An alternative to having a 'spotlight' dance would be to find time to dance with your dad during the course of the night. I have seen that done as well.

My Dad passed away too so we opted not to do them. I am very low-key and its too much attention anyway. I didn't do any of the typical things - no boquet toss, no garter thing, no spotlight dance. Everyone said how great and different our wedding was too. I'd rather have a good time then have to worry about doing all those things.
Remember, it's your day you don't have to do anything you don't want to do!!

catchi22, you are so right.

I think some of the best weddings that I have been to are the ones that did not follow every single tradition.

I stressed a bit over this too-I'm thrilled with what we did. We shared a song me & Dad and Hubby & MIL. We were going to use Unforgetable, but it's long! Our DJ suggested a one hit wonder 'You're my special angel' it turned out to be great because my Dad loves oldies & it is a really sweet song. Plus it's only 2 minutes long. It was perfect, I'm glad we did it.
