Hi, for brides who met their FH in their 30s, how long have you been dating your fiance before he proposed?
Just wondering 'cus a good friend of mine in her mid 30's is dating a guy a few years younger and she's concerned he won't be ready to propose soon! She's wondering if she should move on 'cus he said he won't be ready for another 2 to 3 years!

Re: Brides In Their 30's
FH proposed 8 months after we first met.
But we get along so well. It's both our 2nd marriage and we both have the same goals for our future and 'time frame' of when we want things to happen.
I think being on the same page avoids wasting your time. Been there, done that on previous relationship!

I wasn't in this situation but I am close to someone who is - she has to ask herself a few questions and answer them truthfully: Is she willing to wait for 2/3 years? Is this person worth waiting for? Does she want to start a family now, 2 years from now, 5 years from now? What happens if 2/3 years from now he is still not ready? They might love each other very much, but if she is ready to move forward and he's not, she may need to find someone who has the same goals/needs as she does.

Very true. Those are the questions she needs to ask herself.

Re: Brides In Their 30's
My FH and I dated when he was 23 and I was 27 for about a year and he wasnt ready to get married so we broke up. We work together and then a few years later when he grew up more, he realized that he missed an opportunity. We got back together and got engaged 5 months after that. So, I guess it depends on how much of an age difference and how old the guy is now. I am 31 now and my FH is 27. He was ready at 27 but not at 23.

We were together for almost 4 years before we got engaged. We'll both be 30 when we get married. We knew the other was 'it' right away, but didn't get married right away... It was right for us and I am so happy -- we are set in our careers and financially secure.

Re: Brides In Their 30's
He's 30 & I'm 37. I have a three and a half year old son. We dated 2.5 years before we got engaged. When you know, you know. I don't think it has anything to do with age in my circumstance. Its definatley a maturity thing. Hes more mature than some 40 year old's I dated! If he wants to wait another couple of years then she has to make up her mind if she can wait. My FH wants a child of his own, also, so I did make it clear to him that I do not want children over 40. He agreed and when the time was right, he proposed. If it has to do with her age and having children, then they have to get that out on the the table.

I'm 33 and he's 42. He proposed less than a year after we started dating. You didn't mention how old he was or she was, just that he was a little younger... I feel like if a man is single in his 30's he most likely has a fear of commitment. I was in a LTR with 2 men like that, and they're STILL single....

I'm 35 & he's 31. We met 3 1/2 years ago but went out for a year & a half & then broke up for 8 months. We then got back together & he proposed 6 months later.

I'm 32 and FH is 28. He proposed on our one year anniversary. You really can't base the timing on the age...it's just a number. Each individual is different.

My friend is about 35/36 yo. And her guy is 31 now.
They have been dating about 2 months now and because he refuse to admit that they are in a relationship she's just concerned.
She has made it clear to him that she's at a point where she wants to get married and have children but he's still not ready yet. I'm worried that she's pushing him and other potential candidates away with this assertive behavior.
She seem to think that guys should be ready to propose after dating for a year... *sigh*

(first marriage for both of us)we both just turned 32, we talked about getting married very ealry in the relationship so... ditto to ' WHEN YOU KNOW YOU KNOW!!'

For that reason alone, I wouldn't stay. They are either in one or they aren't. But she also shouldn't 'push' someone into getting married.

we are both 36...he proposed 11 months after we started dating...once we strated to gets erious, we agreed that we would not ait more than a year to get engaged...when you a re a bit older, you know what you want (and more importantly what you DON'T want) and when you find it there is no point waiting...

I have to agree, when you know you know.... I know I wanted to marry my FH after 3 months of being with him. But what if you know but the guy is a commitment-phobic younger man who doesn't know you're the best thing for him?

That's something that he has to come to realize on his own.
