Brides In Their 30's

Original post by eden

Hi, for brides who met their FH in their 30s, how long have you been dating your fiance before he proposed?

Just wondering 'cus a good friend of mine in her mid 30's is dating a guy a few years younger and she's concerned he won't be ready to propose soon! She's wondering if she should move on 'cus he said he won't be ready for another 2 to 3 years!

5 months before an 'unoffical' proposal, 9 months before the 'official' proposal with the ring.

We had our first date in December and then I went out of town for the holidays - through early January.

We became exclusive in February, he brought up marriage in March, we started looking at rings around July when he asked if I'd marry him (and we started researching wedding costs), he put a deposit on a stone in September, went to visit halls also in September, he got his deposit back from the first jeweler and put a deposit on another stone in October, he asked my parents if he could marry me in October and he proposed on November 1 - all in the same year

I went to a lot of dates to lean out men who were not on the same page. I learned to be selective very quickly. I was tired of dating people who did not have the goals/timeframe I wanted for my life. I would give them 1 to 2 dates to see how I felt about them. And man did I meet some loosers! LOL

When I met FH, we knew instantly. I guess it's true, you know right away. Unofficially knew after 3-4 months we would marry each other. He proposed 6 months after we met, we are getting married 7 months or so after he proposed.

We are 'too old' to wait several years to get married and we want to start for children after the wedding.

He was 21 and I was 23 when we met. I'm going to be 32 on our wedding day.

What can I say, he had a real fear of committment and I have a ton of patience.

we started dating when I was 26 and he was 29. He proposed when I was 28 - I will be 32 when I get married. It's my second marriage and even though I said yes we had some issues to work out. I was scared to go through it again even though he is wonderful. Everyone is different, it isn't always the man - he would have married me a week after I said yes.
I say stick it out. We have decided to go ahead now that I am ready 1 for marriage again and I am ready to have another child.

We were together 1 year and 1 month when he proposed and we got married 9 months later. I'm 35 (well, in a month and a half I will be!) and he's 40

My friend is about 35/36 yo. And her guy is 31 now.

They have been dating about 2 months now and because he refuse to admit that they are in a relationship she's just concerned.

For that reason alone, I wouldn't stay. They are either in one or they aren't. But she also shouldn't 'push' someone into getting married.

Exactly, and especially since they've only been dating 2 months.

FH is 31 and I'm 32. He proposed 16 months after we first started dating. I do have to say I made my intentions pretty clear right from the beginning of our relationship. I was looking to get married, I didn't want to waste time with someone who wasn't on the same page as me. My attitude was, if he's not looking to get married, that's fine, but he's just not the person for me.

Your friend has to do some serious thinking. She has to decide if she's willing to wait 2-3 years to get engaged. Then possibly another year or 2 to get married. I hate to say it, but I could never understand the 'I'm just not ready' line. But honestly, your friend has to go w/ her gut feeling.

I gotta agree about the 'I'm not just not ready line'. I think it's just an excuse for the guy to look abit more to make sure there are no better option out there. :P Guys are so fickle that way... And no, this isn't a guy bashing session, but I have come across alot of guys like that.

My last bf couldn't commit either so we broke up. 6 months later he wanted me back. I had a riot telling him that, 'sorry, I'm not available now. I've been dating someone else - for 5 months now.' Haha! Love the way he reacted when he found out it only took a month for me to replace him. ;)

We got engaged after dating for 2 years and 2 months. We would have become engaged several months earlier, but my brother got engaged and I told DH to wait a few months and let my brother and FSIL enjoy the spotlight.

Our engagement was only about 9 months. My brother and FSIL will have been engaged for almost two years by the time they get married in April.

I was 29 when we met - 1 mt before my 30th bday, and he's exactly 10 yrs older than I am, and was separated with 2 kids - I was concerned because we had to wait until the divorce papers were 1st gone thru and then finalized - but once that happened - he proposed - but it took until I was 31 - and I'm 32 now... in hindsight, i wish I didnt stress too much abt it - everything happened when it should have!

I'm 39 and DH is 41. We started dating when I was 29. Within six months, we had moved in together. And although he didn't propose until 7 years later, we had already decided that we were committed to one another. The wedding was more of a formality than anything.
