Brides To Be - Get your Passport ASAP

For your HM....
Instead of taking the normal 6-8 weeks like lasr year [when I got mine] this year theyre taking 10-12 weeks EVEN for a name change!

Long story, but I never change my name on the passport, so the travel agency said it would be a problem [AFTER THE TICKETS WERE ODERED & WHATNOT] so everything was just booked in my maiden name so we can still go to antigua! VERY AGGRIVATNG but I just wanted to warn you girlies :o)

get them way before your HM just to play it safe!!!!

my passport doesnt expire for 4 more years so i was like ok im set. But then the other night i was like WAIT do i have to get a new one for the hm bc of the name change. I think when we get the tickets, ill get it under my name and just use my passport.

if not then i'll do it the way i always do and get it in 2 weeks. Ive never done it through the post office. I go to the passport agency in the city and get it the same day, just gotta make your appt 2 weeks ahead of time over the phone

well if your going on ur HM, right AFTER the wedding, you still need to book EVERYTHING in ur maiden name. because u wont have ur officially marriage ceritificate til about 1 month after the wedding.
you'll be fine as long as everything is in ur maiden name.

my problem was with my T.A., and she said back in january, that as long as my passport was in my maiden name, AND I had my marriage certificate I was FINE, because the marriage certificate tied me both into my married and maiden name, but when I called around, she steered me wrong, THANK GOD, i got on top of this because we're going in 5 weeks and I would have been so scrwed if they didnt let me on the plane! i never changed it over, because of the $ and soon enough i just kept putting it off, and putting it off. everything worked out. she just had to change all the airline & sandals tickets back into my maiden name......and if i need my drivers license, i still have my maiden name [and my married name license] anyway..... oh it was such a mess!
even with a name change, they said it would take 10-12 weeks, then u have to send ur original marriage certiciate back and ur passport & if i didnt get that back in time before the trip, then i'd really be screwed! but least everything worked out.......Im SO behind on changing over my names...i only did it on a few things so far..........and even w. a rush, there was no gaurentee it would be there in time....

When are you leaving for your honeymoon? If you're going right after the wedding, you won't have time to change your name at all. Get your tickets and everything in your maiden name.

FYI - I expedited my passport through the post office. They told it would take 4-5 weeks. It came back in less than a week. I went to the PO in Rockefellar Center in Manhattan.

I didn't know you could do that! I don't even know what you need to get a passport. I suck at this planning stuff.

yeah, they charge more than it would cost doing it through the post office. Last time i renewed my passport was in 2001 and it was $95, don't know if its still the same.

I get scared having to wait for it...FH had to get one last summer before we went on vacation, the kid did it MONTHS ahead of time and they went way past what they said was the wait time. He and his brother did it at the same time and his brother had received a while before him. It was seriously close to a week before our vacation, we had to contact people and write letters, and ONLY then did we receive it and they had to send it fed-ex to make sure we got it on time

Re: Brides To Be - Get your Passport ASAP

here is the information

http://travel.state.gov/passport/about/agencies/agencies_912.html

They do the appointments only 14 days before you leave so you have to put in date you are leaving on vacation. I did this bc i had to, had an emergency trip and passport was expired, and funny enough same thing happened when i was like 14-15 had to do the same.

if you want to do it before 14 days they have a link to click and where to go

Re: Brides To Be - Get your Passport ASAP

Bear in mind that normally the passport office only does same-day passports for people who are traveling within 14 days.

If you aren't going to be traveling within 14 days, your best bet is to expedite your passport through the post office (providing you have 4-6 weeks to wait) or to use a passport expediting agency to expedite it for you. This can be anywhere from 48 hours to a week or two, depending on what you want to pay.

You WILL pay more to expedite it, so going as early as possible is preferable. They're good for 10 years, so even if you're traveling next year or later, you might as well get one now.

Re: Brides To Be - Get your Passport ASAP

Our travel agent (FH's godmother) actually said I'd have to book my ticket in my maiden name.. it would take too long to get it changed before the HM and also you would have to show a marriage license to get it changed.
Imo it's easier and faster to just book in your maiden name.
