Brides who are paying for everything

I am sitting here at my desk thinking wedding like usual and I have to ask.... Is there anyone else who seriously is worried about how they are going to pay for everything???

Sometimes I really do wonder why I am willing to spend the equivalent of my college education on what is really just a glorified party....

Sometimes I feel like I should just elope or have a very small ceremony and then go out to dinner with family without making it into a big overdone affair.

But then part of me feels like we should not jip ourselves out of the whole wedding experience. So I am a little torn.

I get sick when I look over our budget, how much we have already paid, and how much we still have to pay in less than 4 months...

It makes me seriously want to cry sometimes

YES! My fiance and I were just talking about this a few nights ago. Some days you feel good, relaxed, with no worries...then something comes up that may shift things and you feel the stress again. I find it really helpful to just list and relist all the expenses and talk about where you can cut back...even if its minor things, like for us...we have pizza every Monday night lol...we are going to do this less. I am really considering working some overtime hours also. Hang in there....many brides are in the same boat, everything will work out.

yes- I actually had a mini nervous breakdown the other night because I dont know if we are gonna be able to do it - I even contemplated not paying my mortgage a few months to save for the wedding - which is total insanity and makes no sense at all!!!!!!!!!!!

It sounds like a lot of us are in the same boat. It's definitely not easy having to pay for most, if not all of the wedding on your own. I've just been trying to watch what I spend my money, so I can save as much as I can. The financial responsiblity of paying for the wedding ourselves is why we decided to be engaged for two years. We definitely needed the extra time in order to pay for everything.

I am pretty much paying for about 80% of my wedding, given that FH wasn't hung ho about getting married in the first place and was completely commitment phobic until he got the nerve to actually pop the question.

When I mention the cost of reception halls, he just literally turns green. Both of us have great jobs with solid income so we both can actually afford a wedding that costs 20-30K but prefer not to blow retirement or savings money like that. I am using the money I saved up from my side jobs over the past year to pay for everything except Pre-Cana, the wedding dress, invitations and flowers (which my parents are covering). The rest (Reception Hall, DJ and Limo) is all me. FH are splitting the honeymoon 50/50.

I personally can't fathom spending upwards of $50,000 or more for a 1 day affair like a wedding. One of my co worker's brothers got married in front of the Macy's store window in Herald Square in 2000 and they got divorced this past year. They spent thousands of dollars on their wedding and now both of them are divorced and miserable.

So I am keeping to my budget no matter what, even though FH can chip in the rest and probably will help me with costs. I just think some of these wedding vendors do a great job of gouging people because you know you want your day to be super, extra, extra special..But honestly, an extra special day doesn't have to cost me the equivalent of my law school education.
No. freakin.' way.

We are paying for everything as well...we are borrowing $25K from someone and paying them back after the wedding...it's the only way!

Yeah, we are paying for 90% of the wedding on our own as well and we have no idea how...What types of things did you cut off your list blessed?

I'm cutting ppl ( my list is at 257 now), no video (a friend is doing it), a limo bus instead of a reg limo for us as well, making my own programs and menues..I realy have no extras...
