We are interested in going to Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora. I heard though that some of the resorts are not on the main island (i.e., you have to take a water ferry to get to the main island to go to dinner, which can be expensive). Which were the resorts you stayed at, and more importantly were they on the main island or off of it? I am trying to figure out which resorts will end up being more of a hassle as far as location is concerned.
When I say main island I mean the main island of either Tahiti, Moorea or Bora Bora....depending on which one you stayed at.
TIA!

Yes, if you are not on the main island, you will have to take a ferry. But there were no fees for every ride, it was included with our stay at the resort. At least this was the case at Le Meridien Bora Bora. And even the restaurants offered free car service waiting for you on the main island.

I think the only island you will have this issue is Bora Bora. Tahiti and Moorea both do not have resorts off the main island. Like the previous poster mentioned, the resorts in Bora Bora that are off the main island have a shuttle back and forth during the day. I stayed at the Intercontinental Thalasso, which had a shuttle that dropped you off at their sister hotel on the main island. The restaurants will generally pick you up and drop you for free as well. The only place that charge for pick up and drop off was Villa Mahana (its included on your check).

I agree with the previous posters. You only stay on the main island of Tahiti and Moorea. However, Bora Bora is made up of motus and the hotels are on different islands. I stayed at the BB Pearl and they had a free ferry shuttle to take you to and from the main island. When you make a reservation for dinner through your hotel, the restaurant picks you up at the ferry dock. It is sort of bizarre... there are only one or two seatings per restaurant, so everyone takes the same two ferrys and all of the restaurant vans are waiting for you. It is sort of a pain to get back as you wait for other people from your hotel to complete their meals.
