Ladies....just curious...I lost my dad right before I met FH. I can't have the Father/Daugher dance. I know I can and will dance with my mom....but I don't want to exclude my dad. Am I out of my mind. Any ideas???

Re: Brides who have lost their fathers....
My sister in law lost her father and felt the same way. She had the video screens set up around the room, so what she did was she danced with her brother to the father/daughter song and had pictures of her Dad with her growing up playing on the screens in a slideshow. It was really beautiful.

Re: Brides who have lost their fathers....
Thank you.... That is exactly what I was thinking of doing. I have just started scanning some photos I could find of me and my dad. I have 3 brothers and thought of dancing with each while the photos of me and my dad were showing during the father daughter dance. Thanks for sharing.

I lost my father about 1.5 years ago. I am going to have a dedication song for everyone to dance to.

I have lost my father recently as well
I was thinking of somthing similar. Having photos of us together through the years play to a song dedicated to him.
Dont know if i might be able to handle that though.
I like that idea though. Im definitey interested in some ideas myself..
Sorry didnt mean to take over....

i didn't grow up with my dad, never got to meet him.. so i'm sure my mom will want to walk me down the aisle.. or i will probably do a solo walk. The more i think about it i feel like maybe that's what i want to do, i don't want to hurt my mom's feelings cause it has nothing to do with her, she has every right to walk with me and give me away.. and i am very grateful to her for everything sh'e's done... but i guess i kind of feel more traditional about that one aspect of things.. doesn't that sound terrible? lol. It's just a very rough subject for me.. so i'm in the same boat with all the father/daughter stuff

I originally felt that way too...but it really upset my mom to think about me walking down the aisle alone. In my mind I wasn't because I felt my dad would be 'with' me. But I was rethinking it, especially because it is a LONG aisle, and I decided to ask my two brothers in law, whom I'm very close to. They're gonna split the duty. I can't even tell you how happy they were and how much it meant to them.
You can always honor your dad's memory in your bo-k with a little photo charm or something.

Re: Brides who have lost their fathers....
hey ... i actually met FM before my father passed, but we werent yet dating, we started officially dating right after my father passed. As a matter of fact, the first time FH even met me mother was at my father's wake/funeral....
i know and feel exactly how you do ... So we have decided to include my dad but in a happy way with a memorial - photo and video memorial during what would have been the father/daughter dance.
i will use old family pics and videos to put together a montage that will play on plasmas (supplied by DJ) and to a few different songs meshed together.
also, we are going to pass around candles for everyone so that they can light them to remember family members that they have lost at the same time... HTH

Re: Brides who have lost their fathers....
I am going to have both my grandfather and my mother walk me down the isle.
As for the dance, I did not want anyone to replace it so I am going to try to figure out a song that has meaning to both me and my father and play it and invite everyone to dance. Not doing a slide show as I think it may be too emotional.

Re: Brides who have lost their fathers....
My Dad passed away in April. It's very hard for me because Dad was there for my first wedding and it's upsetting that he won't be there to see me marry the right guy for me. I know that he was happy that I ended my first marriage and was happy that FH & I were back together but it still hurts that he won't be there.
We're going to have a moment of silence for both of our fathers at our ceremony. My very good friend is giving me away. And then at the reception I'm going to dance with my friend, FH will dance with his Mom and then we're going to have the DJ play a Dean Martin song (both of our fathers liked Dean Martin) and invite everyone up on the dance floor in memory of our fathers.
I think having the photo montage of Dad would be way too emotional for all of us since it's so recent.

I feel the same way as you. No one can replace my Dad. I'm going to walk about 3/4 of the way down the aisle...then my FH is going to walk to me...then we are going to walk to the altar holding hands.

Re: Brides who have lost their fathers....
it's interesting to see this posted today cause i went through this last night as well. . my grandmother claims she was joking but yesterday when i told her i plan on walking in by myself (that was my thought of the day..) she got in a huff and told me she was goingto boycott my wedding then..
u can just IMAGINE the tears that followed that.. as she went on to tell me that i have men in my family and that a woman doesn't walk herself down the aisle and if i do that how she's not coming..
later she claimed she was just kidding but the damagee was already done.. and i dont really accept her apology..
at anyrate.. ik will either walk in alone or have my brother walk me in.. not sure yet..

Not sure who will be walking me down the aisle. I actually thought that I would have my mother b/c I thought that it was unheard of to walk in by yourself, but since I see that there are actually people that walk themselves, I think I may do this.

My husband and I both lost our fathers right before we met. We had their photos on a table at the church with a remembrance candle burning. We also took the pictures to the Watermill and had them placed on the mantle behind our table. At first I was going to walk down the aisle by myself, but then I decided to have my Mom do it. I'm very glad that I did.

A few years ago, I was watching 'A Wedding Story' on TLC...the wedding was at a vineyard...the bride walked alone, almost all the way to the clergyman and stopped..then her FH walked to her and they walked the rest of the way together. That's when I decided that I was going to do the same thing....
As I said before...no one can replace my Dad.

Dont be silly....you didnt take over. It is hard to know what will be the right thing. I have thought about this for the last couple of months and play it out in my head. My dad is gone for over 5 years and it can still bring me to tears....but our dads will still be with us on our day

I have the same situation. I decided while I dance picture of my father or me and my parents will play in the backround on the screens. I am not going to tell anyone I am doing it. My photographer will put together the collage before the wedding.
