Brides who have lost their fathers....

Original post by katt711

Ladies....just curious...I lost my dad right before I met FH. I can't have the Father/Daugher dance. I know I can and will dance with my mom....but I don't want to exclude my dad. Am I out of my mind. Any ideas???

My mother and brother will both give me away. As far as the dance is concerned I still haven't decided. I would love to give my mom the honor of dancing with her but I think it will just be too much of an emotional moment that I am trying to avoid. I was thinking about just leaving the dancing with the parents part out of the wedding.

Re: Brides who have lost their fathers....

My dad passed away last October. I haven't thought everything through yet, but...I was already planning on having both my parents walk me down the aisle. So now it will just be my mom. I was hoping to have a memorial candle lit for him (& all the grandparents we have lost) and maybe have a picture of my dad next to it.

I've talked to my mom about dancing with her, but as of right now neither of us are sure we would be able to handle that. I told FH as of right now I'm not having parent dances, but that could change. I've thought about a montage of pics, but i know my mom and I would lose it. I'd like to dedicate a song to him and have people dance though.

A friend of mine had a poem that she framed and put up near the placecards and a picture of her with her dad, which I think is a nice idea. I also want a pic of him on my bo-k. I also read somewhere that a nice thing to do, the day after the wedding, is to place your bo-k on his grave. To let him know he was there. So that is something I'm considering also.

There are so many things to memorialize a person. I'm sorry that all of us have to do it!

I lost my father about 1.5 years ago. I am going to have a dedication song for everyone to dance to.

This is what I am going to do also.

I just want to say to you all that I think you are all so incredibly amazing...I know people often say ' I don't know if I could handle that if it were me' but I guess you just do it...and reading all of these post just out of curiosity I guess...made be cry because I am so amazed at how you are all remembering those who you have lost...I just want to say that I hope your special day is as wonderful as you hope and that I think that each and everyone of you should do what ever feels right and not worry about anyone else .....hope you don't mind my saying so...good luck with everything

I was going to do a montage of pictures but I am not dancing with anyone I want it to be a few minutes of just my dad in memory of him!

I lost my dad too and my mom and I wanted to encorporate him into the wedding. So my mom and I are going to dance with each other for the mother/daughter dance and once that is over shes having two plasmas display a montage with pictures of my dad and i as i was growing up...we're going to play 'my little girl' by Tim McGraw in the backround

Dont be silly....you didnt take over. It is hard to know what will be the right thing. I have thought about this for the last couple of months and play it out in my head. My dad is gone for over 5 years and it can still bring me to tears....but our dads will still be with us on our day

I have thought about having my brother walk down the aisle or my mom I cant decide. FH and I are not doing the dances His mom and my dad passed 12 years ago and its still very hard for us. I want to put a side table with there pics, a candle and some rose pedals in their honor.
