Brides who were legally married before church wedding...

Our priest said we have to obtain a 'second ceremony application' (I can't quite remember what it was...

but basically FH & I got legally married at city hall, end of May (for insurance reasons) and we're having our church ceremony in Sept.

My question is-- does FH have to be with me to obtain this application? Or can I go myself.. I have a more flexible job where I can take more time off & he can't

I can't help you with that.... I just wanted to comment on your new picture. It is very cute. I actually didn't realize it was you posting because I never look at the names... I just look at the pictures but then I did see the 'snort' and who it was.

That doesn't make any sense - my deacon said that we don't any other paper work, just the name of the ceremony will be different, but will be run the same and to bring our marriage certificate with us...
Where are you getting married??? Maybe I need to double check with my deacon?

I would call the place where you got your marriage license, and maybe they can tell you...sorry, I am not too helpful!

BTW: I just emailed my deacon about this second ceremony thing - he should get back to me pretty soon - he's quick the email junkie!! So as soon I find out something I will let you all know!

OK... so this is what I got back from my deacon via email:

When a couple goes to a Town Hall for a marriage license before a wedding they'll be asked if they were married before, or already. If so, a form different from the 'Marriage License' form is handed out. That form is generally known as a 'Second Ceremony' or 'Religious Ceremony' form. The form will refer to the original marriage license just so there is no confusion that the couple was legally married already. The 'Second Ceremony' or 'Religious Ceremony' form will then reflect that there was a religious ceremony at a different date.

I also just spoke with the marriage department at the Town of Hempstead:

In order to get the 'Second Cermony'/'Religious Ceremony' Application, BOTH of you HAVE to be there. It works just the same as the original marriage license application. But, this time, you have to bring with you:
1. certificate of marriage (you should have got that in the mail)
2. two forms of ID - drivers license, health insurance card,
birth certificate, etc.
3. OF COURSE, why would the town of hempstead do
something for FREE: $40 cash

I hope this helps - I know I had NO idea...
