Brides who'd done or are doing the sand ceremony

I read somewhere that you are supposed to seal the top with wax, so that the sand doesn't spill out in transit. How do you do this? Any better suggestions for how you handled/will handle this?

The sand ceremony is when you take two different colored sands and the bride and groom pour them into a single vase and mix the sand. Melissaandsean did this at their wedding and it was very pretty. Kinda the same as the unity candle but different.
