Bridesmaid about to back out

so i just got a call from a bridesmaid wanting to possibly back out because its 'rude' to her that im asking the BP to pay for their attire

to me they are special guests..im not paying for everyones outfits..why should i pay for theirs

just because her mother paid for the BM dresses for her wedding

ive never heard of this until now

I've never heard of the bride paying for the BM dresses!! I know it is expensive for someone to be part of a wedding.. that is something she shouldve taken into consideration before saying yes.. In response to that i am trying to find inexpensive dresses.. ones that wont cost more than 150 and ones that they may be able to wear over again

Better you know it now than a few weeks, or even a few months before the wedding.

Thats ridiculous - does she think you're made of money?!

I have never herd of that. I think she is the rude one asking you to pay. She should have never said yes.

I have been in 1 wedding where the couple paid, and they were uber loaded!
but mostly I've paid for my bm dresses, and if shes not willing to do that little thing is she really worth being a part of your special event? its supposed to be an honor to be asked, she sounds very rude to me. There are nice ways of saying, 'look I'd love to be in your wedding, but I'm having some financial problems...' and maybe at that point something could have been worked out, a loan or a payment plan, but she just sounds rude. I offered to buy my maid of honor's dress because she is helping me sooooooooooooo much, but everyone else has to pay, i think it's pretty standard.

that is not something that is expected of the bride! Let her be, it's her loss

im glad you all feel this way..

BP paying for attire was always standard to me..

im over it already..i can ask someone else if i have to

plus she is from where i live ( kansas) and thinks that it stupid that im getting married somewhere else than where i live

most of my family is up there..i would rather have 25 people fly to NY then have 200 people fly to wichita, ks

That is crazy!!! I have been in at least 15 weddings and I have ALWAYS had to pay for my dress. I have never heard of the bride paying for her bridal party's attire!!! That's crazy. Like having a wedding isn't expensive enough!!!

I would tell her that unlike her mother...you and your family can not afford to do that. So if she would kindly let you know what she wants to do because you have someone else who would be honored to take her place!

Please...don't let that make you get upset. You still have enough time to replace her if you need to. It's her loss...you will still have a great wedding.

Remember... we are here for you to vent!!!

People need to understand that everyone has different ways of planning the wedding. Just cause you aren't paying for it doesn't mean anything bad.

I've never heard of that...BM's have always had to pay for their dresses. It's part of accepting the 'job' as a BM!!!
