so i just got a call from a bridesmaid wanting to possibly back out because its 'rude' to her that im asking the BP to pay for their attire
to me they are special guests..im not paying for everyones outfits..why should i pay for theirs
just because her mother paid for the BM dresses for her wedding
ive never heard of this until now

update
turns out she read etiquette(sp) and i am right and now she understands
now she doesnt know why she didnt make hers pay for them and use that money to do something else in the wedding
im right and i still have a bridesmaid

Typically the bride does not pay for their attire. Some brides do if they have the extra money in their budget but at $150-200/dress + alterations + shoes + accessories, it really adds up. Thats why a lot of brides give the accessories as a gift to their BMs at the RD. I would explain this to her, hopefully she will understand that it really isnt in your budget and that it will be difficult to cover those expenses. Hopefully she will understand.
