I guess I'll start by saying I'm somewhat of a 'non-traditional bride' with a rather large bridal party (11 bridesmaids! I know!). Since my girls are all different shapes/sizes/walks of life, I made a decision that I thought would be nice. I chose the color (lapis), the designer (David's Bridal), and the length (cocktail/knee length), and decided to let the girls choose the dress they wanted. I figured that way nobody could complain about the dress, price, etc. I thought it was a pretty good idea (and so did my bridesmaids and mother!), but it seemed to get a bit of a mixed response from co-workers. Any advice on the topic? Thanks!

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Advice!!
i think you did the right thing...there is no pleasing everyone..the color and length will be the same but they will still get to choose a style that they feel comfortable in

Thank you! As a 'professional bridesmaid' myself (three times a MOH and two as a BM), I really like the idea! It'll keep things a bit interesting too!

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Advice!!
no problem...honestly it probably wont even look that much different since it will be the same color and length. i would love my girls to wear strapless gowns but i know that some of them will feel uncomfortable in them so i am also having them choose their own style!!

I originally wanted to do different dresses too. I wanted to please everyone, but then a sales consultant at the salon told me it would be too much with my dress and look too busy in my wedding pics. I feel like if you are having a large number of bridesmaids, it might be too much in pictures to have different dresses. This is just my opinion, ultimately it is what you want!!!! Good luck, I think bm dresses were the most difficult decision for me to make.

I think what you did was perfect. 11 girls makes it 11 times more difficult to pick one dress that will flatter all of them. I personally would just add in the fabric material. You might not want 10 in satin and one in chiffon - or perhaps you do?! Just something to think about! :)

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Advice!!
For some reason, FH is so dead set against me doing this, but I would like to.
I'd like to also designate the fabric, in addition to the color, designer and lenght... the color in a Satin caa look different in a chiffon or a taffeta, KWIM?

Choosing the fabric might not be a terrible idea...we shall see! Honestly, there is so much to worry about, the bridesmaid dresses are last on my list...through maybe they're moving up in priorities.

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Advice!!
All I did was choose the color for my girls - and when we went to David's - they all agreed on the same dress!
I like what you did though - and you may even get lucky like I did!

Things you didn't think you'd care about will more than likely become a lot more important. Maybe not critical, but things like BM dresses will definitely be more on your radar as the bigger things get checked off.

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Advice!!
the only thing I would worry about is the different materials of the dresses...my BMs are wearing lapis too and it can look lighter or darker depending on what kind of material they are in....but if you are ok with that then I say go for it!

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Advice!!
If you don't mind them all being different then go for it (although ditto to the same fabric!). I planned on doing the same until I realized some of my girls have questionable taste LOL I didn't want them arriving in something innappropriate for grandma LOL

GO with what makes you & the bridal party happy!! I think it turns out fine & pretty what its different dresses. IMO I'm doing just my MOH in a different dress but same material, color & length as my other BMs

My color is LAPIS from David's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I've stopped telling co-workers things. They just don't get it. I LOVE your idea. I have 3 in my BP. The MOH's happen to have the same dress, but if it didn't happen that way, I so didn't care.

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Advice!!
Im doing it, the girls appreciated it and honestly i think my pictures are going to look so much better because of it.....
Oh, and i was done with them in one sunday flat the only hard part is making sure no girls fight over one dress, i let my sisters pick first.

I like different materials too, it gives more dress choices and may look lighter and darker but i love love that look, just make sure its really mixed, no duplicates, no too many girls in the same style and i love it. like for instance if everyone picks chiffon and one person picks taffetta it might look off balanced, kind of make sure there is a variety and let ur girls know what u want

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Advice!!
what you're doing is actually fairly common! I used the designer Jenny Yoo and did the same exact thing - chose the color, length, fabric and let my 7 BMs run wild! it keeps everyone happy and makes for great pics!!!
what is it that your co-workers aren't liking about this set up?

I think its a great idea, but agree with most of the girls about the material. I would specify which fabric you want.

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Advice!!
i think it's nice that you're giving them this option. just make sure it's all the same color and fabric. I was going to do this originally but i felt like there weren't enough yellow dresses in the fabric that i wanted for my bp
