I guess I'll start by saying I'm somewhat of a 'non-traditional bride' with a rather large bridal party (11 bridesmaids! I know!). Since my girls are all different shapes/sizes/walks of life, I made a decision that I thought would be nice. I chose the color (lapis), the designer (David's Bridal), and the length (cocktail/knee length), and decided to let the girls choose the dress they wanted. I figured that way nobody could complain about the dress, price, etc. I thought it was a pretty good idea (and so did my bridesmaids and mother!), but it seemed to get a bit of a mixed response from co-workers. Any advice on the topic? Thanks!

what you're doing is actually fairly common! I used the designer Jenny Yoo and did the same exact thing - chose the color, length, fabric and let my 7 BMs run wild! it keeps everyone happy and makes for great pics!!!
what is it that your co-workers aren't liking about this set up?
are these jim helm BM dresses??

I think its a great idea. I do think you should decide the fabric though.

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Advice!!
im doing different dresses for my girls in lapis too!! the only thing i made sure of though is that of the 3 styles chosen they were all the same fabric, something to think about for example a shiny satin can sometimes seem more formal than a chiffon.

you totally did the right thing! i am doing the same thing and i only have 4 girls
so far 2 picked out dresses and here is what they look like...
im doing this also.. i have 6 and there all different body types . i want black, i figured wed go to the store and atleast they can get a dress they will wear again (since i have two dresses that i would never wear again).

Re: Bridesmaid Dress Advice!!
you said so yourself that your a 'non-traditional bride' so there's nothing wrong with having your BMs wear different styles! personally, i love the idea because the BMs will have a liberty to get something they really want and hopefully be able to use outside your wedding day.

Thanks for your help, girls! I actually sent three dresses I liked to my girls, and all of them really liked one! We shall see what happens! Thanks for making me feel welcome to the boards!
