Bridesmaid Dresses...

Bridesmaid Dresses...

Ok so I just got my wedding dress and I have decided on a color for the bridesmaid dresses - Sangria (David's Bridal) with a possible accent color of Wisteria...I have not chosen a bridesmaid dress yet, but I have a question - does the dress material have to be the same as the wedding dress?? My dress is chiffon and all of the bridesmaid dresses that I like so far are all satin...does it matter or does it look weird that the dresses are different material??

I don't think so

My dress was lace and MOH wore chiffon

In my opinion, satin would not look right if your dress was chiffon. If it was the other way around, it might be different. Chiffon is more traditionally used for Bridesmaids and so it might look strange if they are the ones in satin and not you. David's Bridal has tons of chiffon choices.

They dont have to match but the above bride makes a good point- you wouldn't want their dresses to over power yours. Im not sure what your chiffon looks like but its just something to think about. Good Luck!

I kind of agree with the bride talking about not over powering your dress. I have a tulle based princess ball gown and am having my girls in chiffon (for color purposes. The color I wanted was hard to come by in any other material) and the girls won't overpower... So it is a good point...good luck..Bridesmaid dress shopping was def rough for me!

Unless you are having a beach/vineyard/outdoor wedding at night...in my opinion, short dresses should only be worn for a daytime wedding. Sorry to anyone who is doing this, I just think it says semi-formal.

Show some pictures please. :)
It's your wedding you can do whatever you want!! But I generally think that if you have a light and airy dress that your bridesmaids should have one too. I think that looks nice. They don't have to be the same material in my opinion though.

I'm in a similar dilemma. I had picked out bridesmaids dresses in dupioni because of a certain color I liked. Unfortuantely or fortuntely it was discontinued, but now I'm leaning towards two dresses, one that has organza, so if I got this I wouldnt stick with the dupioni bridesmaids and will go with chiffon most likely. The other is silk I believe, if I do this, the dupioni is still a contender but so is the chiffon.

I want short dresses for my bridesmaids too if possible. Its an all day to night indoor event, not outside in a tent or anything like that.

It does not look weird, the only way it looks weird is if the girls are in different dresses and are wearing the same color and different fabrics. As long as they are in something simple it won't take away from you!

my dress is chiffon and I was having all the girls in satin. We went to look at bridesmaid dresses and now I am letting the girls choose whichever fabric they want. All of my bridesmaids are choosing their own dress from the same designer.

I know it's been a while since I last posted about the bridesmaid dresses, but I found a gorgeous dress from David's Bridal in chiffon & they are perfect with my wedding dress! :)

I don't think it matters. My dress was a different material than my girls and it still looked nice!

I dont really think that matters. I was actually in my friends wedding in Sept and we all had different dresses by davids but some of us were in satin and some of us in chiffon. Personally I wouldnt do it but it did look good in pictures.

ETA: The color she had us wear was sangria too!! Its such an awesome color!

Not at all. As a matter of fact, my MOH's dress is a different material from everyone else's (she picked cotton and they's wearing satin, it was her preference). Btw, the Sangria color at DB's is gorgeous!
