Bridesmaid Dresses as Bridesmaids Gifts - opinion

My wedding is a long ways off, but I was wondering what people though of buying or putting money towards the BM dresses as the BM gift. I've already had one BM express concerns on the cost, not so much because of the cost of the dress, but the alterations on top of that. I was thinking if I could buy the dress, or put some money towards it, that would alleviate some of the stress of paying for the alterations, but I'm also thinking that may not be a fun gift - although the dresses that I'm considering ordering could be worn again because of the style and color (black).

Opinions? Thanks!!!!

Some brides do this to help alleviate the cost for their BMs, I think it's a great idea that they'll surely appreciate. If you also want to get them a 'fun' gift maybe just get them something really small, but it's really up to you.

I think this is a good idea - especially if some have already expressed concerns over the cost.

I'm doing this!! All my BM's are very appreciative of my offer. I'm getting all their dresses and then at the rehearsal dinner I plan on giving them a personalized picture frame w/a pic of us two in it.

After being in many wedding parties, I would have loved to have gotten this gift.

I didnt, but thats very nice of you if thats what you want to do.

I gave them all earrings and a jewlery box. I also gave my MOH a necklace too. The dresses were just too much money.

i bought the fabric and two of my BM are making thier own dresses and two are spending the money on a dressmaker. i felt bad about my wedding being out of state for all of them, so i wanted to lighten the financial load for them.

It's definitely a good idea. I'm planning on paying for their hair and then giving them slippers and a necklace to wear that day.

I think it's a great idea... I'm paying for my girls dresses, hair and makeup. They're paying for shoes, alterations... and the other parties, bachelorette and shower.

I'm doing that... I'm paying for all BMs' shoes, dresses, hair & makup... I also got them a nice necklace as a gift. My FH is paying for all tux's for the GMs and he's also getting them a gift.

It's something that we both want to do. We feel like why burden our friends & family... it's our event and why put the burden on them.

Sorry.. if anyone doesn't agree...

I think that's a great idea. You could buy them something fun on the inexpensive end, like there wedding day jewelry as well.

i would love to do that but with 10 girls it will be costly for me so i plan on getting them something fun to wear (not just on the wedding day) i was actually thinking of getting the tiffany ball necklace (a friend can get them at discount) i know i love mine ball necklace and wear it all the time!
