My wedding is a long ways off, but I was wondering what people though of buying or putting money towards the BM dresses as the BM gift. I've already had one BM express concerns on the cost, not so much because of the cost of the dress, but the alterations on top of that. I was thinking if I could buy the dress, or put some money towards it, that would alleviate some of the stress of paying for the alterations, but I'm also thinking that may not be a fun gift - although the dresses that I'm considering ordering could be worn again because of the style and color (black).
Opinions? Thanks!!!!

Re: Bridesmaid Dresses as Bridesmaids Gifts - opinion
It is a nice idea, but i would definately get them something else small to show your appreciation for them being part of your day

Honestly, buying the dress isn't as fun as other gift options, but as a BMI would much rather have the bride pay for the dress that I would most likely never wear again (we try to find something they will, but let's be honest) to alleviate the cost, especially since a lot of brides give gifts like jewelry to wear at the wedding (which I'd probably never wear again) or an engraved trinket that I wouldn't know what to do with. We did that for the groomsmen - we paid for their tuxes, because not all of them could have afforded that on top of the cost of traveling and staying over and I think they all appreciate that more than they would have enjoyed an engraved beer mug or Swiss Army knife.
So, to sum it up, I think it's a GREAT idea and your friends will really appreicate the gesture.
